Photographer’s Note
On Australia Day up to half a million people gather around the Swan River foreshore or take advantage of high spots around the city to watch the annual Skyshow.
I posted this photo yesterday but decided it was such a lame effort that I pulled it back down and reworked it to bring up more colour and contrast.
It's the first time I have been able to get such shots and while it may not be the world's greatest fireworks photo, I'm happy with it as an initial effort.
I found that with shooting fireworks, timing was everything except that I had no control over the time so I just kept shooting and shooting. About a third of the photos were useable, about a third went straight to the bin and the rest were indifferent.
Love to hear any tips that others may have.

The colours are very vibrant and you have enough explosions to fill the space and make it interesting, but what is lacking for me is a sense of context, where are you etc. It would have been nice to have something in the foreground, maybe the river with reflections or some of the tall buildings of downtown.

Hi Austin,
Nice photo. I think you are right. It is difficult to make firework photos. I do the same as you: make as much pictures as yoy can.
Mostly I aim on a fixed object, using wide angle. Perhaps other people have more useful tips Lets wait. In the mean time I think this photo is worthwile all your efforts,
Regards Henk

It is a shot with a great visual impact. The sharpness is terrific and the colours very nice too.

PS. I have a fireworks posting in my gallery, taken in Brisbane and with the context Andrew is talking about. Please have a look.
