The town of Cue these days has a population of just 350 but in the 1890s at the height of its goldrush it reached 10,000. That's when this grand row of government buildings was erected. On the right is the post office and beyond it the court house and police station - all three continue with their original function. Some other old towns have similar complexes.
We were there on Cue's market day - about 3 stalls. As you can see by the lack of cars and people it is a humming place. One thing you can get, though, is a good cup of coffee, surprisingly from the supermarket.

Your image with the empty street certainly highlights the desolation of Cue now. Today it would be difficult to justify the building of those structures when the population is now only 350.
My anti virus program gives a danger warning if I try to reply to a critique in the forums so I will do it here.
Thanks for recent comments and offer to help with planning a trip to WA when I get the chance to go. Don't feel a need to match critiques one by one. I will only be making the occasional critiques and therefore don't expect many critiques of my images. It all takes time for everyone. It doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the photos that everyone is placing on TE. I do appreciate the time that it takes for people to write comprehensive notes and then turn around and also give in depth critiques to many photos.
We will catch up one day I am sure.

nice the view of the buildings that developed during the goldrush.I like their excellent renovation as the superb details we can see in the scene.I like the light and the colour management as the beauty of the place.

Hi Ian !!
this photo made a strong impression on me, good buildings and an impressive sky and all that for only 350 inhabitants !!! ..... so I spent some time in google earth looking at this town & its surroundings.I also found the old abandoned mine pit.
Very nice testimonial photo from your trip to the West.
