| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This shot was taken at Mount Lofty Botanic Park. It was my first attempt at a macro shot taken with my new D80. No filters were used. A standard 18-55mm lens was used at 18mm. The day was a bright Summers day, with very little (if any) cloud cover, giving strong overhead light.
I have tried to focus on the flower and leave the green background blurred to draw attention on the subject of the photo. I liked the contrast between the purple/blue flower and the green vegetation behind. I have tried to take the shot side on to the flower, allowing me to capture the stem as well as the petals. I tend to think that this angle is generally better than shooting directly down on the flower. It tends to show the flower in better perspective.
This park is a magical place in the Spring months. Located in the Mount Lofty ranges, about 10km from Mount Lofty itself, the cooler moister months can provide breathtaking views and refreshing walks in misty rain. Through the warmer months it is a popular attraction for tourists, who often visit Mount Lofty and the park on the same day.
For this photo I need to thank my family who (as almost always) patiently waited whilst I shot my pics. This is particularly challenging for my 11 Year old son. |
