Photographer's Note

Adelaide is much less popular on TE than Melbourne and Sydney. Probably the reason is it is far and none of Trekkers is living there. But it is very pleasant city.

Adelaide is the fifth-largest city in Australia with a population of 1.23 million.
Named in honour of Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen, queen consort to King William IV, the city was founded in 1836 as the planned capital for a freely settled British province in Australia. Colonel William Light, one of Adelaide's founding fathers, designed the city and chose its location close to the River Torrens in the area originally inhabited by the Kaurna people. Light's design set out Adelaide in a grid layout, interspaced by wide boulevards and large public squares, and entirely surrounded by parkland.
As South Australia's seat of government and commercial centre, Adelaide is the site of many governmental and financial institutions. Today, Adelaide is noted for its many festivals and sporting events, its food, wine and culture, its long beachfronts. It ranks highly in terms of liveability, being listed in the Top 10 of The Economist's World's Most Liveable Cities.

We walked around the streets and made pleasant "discoveries" I have shown already the old Goodman building. Here is the Austral Hotel that I liked. Its architecture reminded me Cape Town. I found about this hotel on its site:
Situated in the heart of the East End on Rundle Street, the Iconic Austral Hotel has long been
recognised as a favourite amongst the greater population of Adelaide andvisiting guests.
The Austral Hotel was built in the early to mid 1800’s using square sandstone and stucco. Ernest
Cohen first opened the doors of the hotel formerly known as ‘The Family Hotel’ on December 8th
1879. 28 years on to the day (Dec 8th 1907), The Austral Hotel was branded. Now trading in its 132nd
year, the Austral continues to grow from strength to strength and is recognised as one of Adelaide
iconic landmarks.
