Meet Terry. Terry is a salt water crocodile (the type that eat silly tourists) held in captivity in the Alice Springs Reptile Centre. It's an interesting place to visit before venturing into the outback. Either you'll come away scared and not want to go anywhere because of finding out about all the dangerous reptiles you could come across even though it's highly unlikely you will or you'll be curious and know to react if you do come across one of the deadliest snakes in the world. 3 times per day, there's a presentation which explains in details about the different reptiles and what to do if you see a snake and get bitten. You can even get to hold some lizards and a python.

Back to Terry. Crocodiles don't normally live in the Red Centre due to lack of water. They generally live in northern Australia. A few years ago the poor boy was actually attacked by some youths who broke into the centre and started hitting him with a ladder and other objects. Of course if one of the youths had fallen in, it would have been Terry with the last laugh.

---------------------------------------------

Hello Nikki,

Wow this guy sure is far away from his coastal habitat. I have heard a lot about the Alice Springs animal park, and especially the bird show. I like the colours here, the green/blue cast makes the croc look more alien. The close detail of the snout and teeth is some of the best I have ever seen of an underwater crocodile. I like how the clarity fades as the water becomes murkier with depth. The photo is well framed - the green/white contrast is visually effective! Congratulations.

Matt

Por cierto, ayer estuve viendo a tu equipo...tela ehhhh?

A good smile from Terry :)) Really a good capture and a documentary photo with your informative note. If I go to Australia one day, one of my first destinations will be the Alice Springs. Thanks for sharing, Tolga

¿Turistas idiotas?

Hi Nikki,
an excellent portrait, even if the focus is not at the eyes, but on the teeth. I do understand it in this case :),
great colour tones, too and a 3D effect. Good one !
Compliments Chris

Hi Terry : )
nice to meet you.

Hej Nikki,
In a way this looks like something they have put in alcohol in a museum, very unliving and the colors makes a strange artificial expression, yea it really looks like a best, even if it's nothing compered to the most lethal of all animals on the planet... the human!
Cheers Lady

Hello Nikki,

Gna, gnap !
Bien vu !

Hi,Nikki
was he under water thats a scarry photo but with a broken tooth it looks cute too. ilike it.tc

Very good close-up portrait :-)
Shallow depth of field works very well here - the huge teeth are well in focus while everything else slightly blurred.

Bonjour Nikki

Hello Nikki
This is a terrific capture of this living log and his charming grin!
The foreshortening emphasises the massive jaws, and the luminous green colouring is very effective in giving an 'alien' feel to the surroundings.
A very successful and enjoyable shot!
Best wishes....Maggie

Salut OutbackTerror,

Amicalement, Christian

It looks like he is trying to get out of the tank to you. This is an unusual front-on view that does a great job of emphasising those deadly teeth. I like how the focus gradually fades away.
Well done
Kath

Hi Nikki

Interesting subject and colours with an even more interesting pov.

Great note too :)
