| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This outcrop is on Huckitta Creek, in the Harts Range east of Alice Springs. The sand in the foreground is a dry creek bed. Every now and then a flood washes the lower part of the rock clean of its red weathering rind. The rock is a metamorphic gneiss showing folded layering.
The Harts Range is somewhat remote: you can get there from Alice Springs by four wheel drive, by helicopter, or by camel. I chose the first option.
Scanned from a slide. Polariser used. I applied a contrast mask in Photoshop to keep the brightness down in the sand, and to lighten up the shadows slightly. This was necessary because of the extreme range of brightness across the photo. |

Les couleurs sont superbes, surtout le ciel, les rochers sont très beau, mais le sol est une peu surexposé, dommage.

Hi Vincent,
Good capture of the colours and sharpness of the image.
P&S
Hello Vincent, great photo. Very sharp. Good colors and composition. The only thing the rock in the foreground is a little over exposed.

Hi Vincent.
I have just discovered your album on TE and I really appreciate it!
This gneiss outcrop with intensely folded and boudined foliation is beautiful. The quality of the scan is incredibely good and allows a nice sharpness. it's nice to be able to see all these details of the rock texture. The sky is beautiful, even if a bit to polarized to my opinion, but it was maybe needed given the light conditions.
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Vincent
Nice to see a shot of this little visited part of Central OZ. The rock formation is stunning, especially set off against such a deep blue sky. The tree is so perfectly placed as an eye catcher.
Regards
Nikki
I love desert pictures, and the folds in the rock strata make this shot a real gem.
