First Light, Devils Marbles Photo

Photographer’s Note

This image was taken at Devils Marbles Conservation Area, about 110km south of Tennant Creek. From Wikipedia: "The Kaytetye people believe that the boulders are the eggs of the rainbow serpent. Over time, the ceremonies and stories related to the Devil's Marbles have largely been lost, but the site is still very important to the tribe and may be considered to be among the oldest religious sites in the world."

This image was taken using a Horseman 6x12 back, which allowed me to use 120 roll film for a panoramic shot.

Greetings, Robert. Really good shot this one, with that lovely subdued morning light. Amazing how evocative just a tree and some rocks can be. I love the light on the trunk of the tree, the kind of tree which tells me immediately that this is Australia.

Beautiful colours and composition. I visited the area last year and unfortunately the light was nowhere near as good as this. I wanted to visit at dusk but time didn't allow
