Southbank is an inner city suburb of Melbourne.

Formerly an industrial area and part of South Melbourne, Southbank was transformed into a densely populated suburb of high rise buildings beginning in the early 1990s as part of an urban renewal program.

Few buildings built before this time have been spared redevelopment. The exceptions were the existing Arts precinct on the eastern end and along St Kilda Road which includes Victorian Arts Centre and National Gallery of Victoria (1960s), parts of the Victorian College of the Arts campus as well as the Victoria Barracks and Malthouse Theatre. Rare pockets of heritage on the western side includes the Polly Woodside National Trust museum and five storey Tea House built in the 1880s.

The entertainment precinct extends along the Yarra and includes Crown Casino. The suburb also includes an office precinct and a hi-density residential precinct which has many skyscrapers, the tallest of which is the Eureka Tower.

The Southbank promenade, runs from Princes Bridge along to Queens Bridge street and Queens Bridge which also incorporates Queensbridge Square and continuing to the west of the Bridge is "Yarra Promenade", which runs underneath Kings Way and Kings Bridge to Clarendon Street, Spencer Street Bridge including Crown Entertainment Complex and promenade restaurants.

The Southbank art and craft market occurs on the promenade near the Arts Centre every Sunday. The promenade is also home to several buskers and a pavement chalk artists.

We saw the chalk art on the pavement but by the time we arrived it was almost gone.
there were several entertainers & this is one of them.

Thank you

hello Santo

Very interesting way to highlight the man's mask by conversion of B&W BG and good pp job for that, my attention goes to this subject straight away. Nice portrait shot, really. For someone like me who has not set foot in Melbourne, this is good descriptive note about Southbank.

tfs, bill

Hi Santo, good capture of this entertainer, and in very good detail and colour (on him). Your depth of field is very effective here in showing us the entertainer, while still showing that he is part of the city. The desaturation of the city itself is a very effective way to make him stand out. He did stand out for me, but I didn't know why at first until I read Bill's note (okay I cheated). I've been to the art and craft market a couple of times myself, and would recommend it highly. I even did some buying in there, of some "old wood" frames and juggling balls.

Thanks, John

Hi Santo. Amazing detail for a statue especially in the eyes ;-). (Hope you put something in his hat). Well captured, nice colour treatment and good handling of focus and DOF. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hello Santo,

This is artwork and very well taken, very interesting way to highlight the man's mask by conversion.
This is a new trendy in all big cities, but I like this type art!
Thanks Santo for showing it.

Have a nice week,
John.

Hey Santo,

Nicely nailed with the use of this "bichromatic" effect, the focus is also spot on, while the background retains some interest. At first I though he was a statue, I guess he`s good at what he does. :)

Best regards.

Hello Santo.
A great portrait of this gold-painted entertainer, very high sharpened.
Nice, almost B&W, background.
Well done.
Best regards.
Bobo.

Hello Santo,

Hi Santo,
Amazing clarity and razor sharp details to the wonderful gilded pirate who stands out particulary well against the black and white background. Very interesting note as well.
Regards, Tom

Hi Santo,
You see, my comments on your previous post is not without reason. You have done it again. Just look at the expression on his face, colours, lighting and the fine details on this portrait, its amazing! Every wrinkle and crease are clearly visible. The contrast with the B&W background is extremely good in bringing out the subject.

Best regards
Alfred

Hello Santo,
Very beautiful colour contrast between the entertainer in gold and the buildings in black and white!
good close up of the entertainer in good sharpness and details
well done
cheers
Tony

Hello Santo,

Excellent details have been captured in this statue, very lively!
The composition is well balanced and the image has a fine feeling of depth, which also is enhanced by desaturation of the background...

Greetings,
Pablo -

Hello santo. Dead or alive. I actually thought first that you have a monument photographed. But as soon as the photo is opened, one sees the alive participant. A good shot in b&colored. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Ciao Santo,
impressionante la perfezione di questa fotografia. La definizione dei dettagli e la nitidezza sono assolutamente eccellenti. Bellissimo il contrasto tra il bianco e nero dello sfondo e l'uomo colorato di oro. Lavoro stupendo, bravo.
Ciao
Paolo.

Hi Santo, whilst I'm not taken by the subject, I think you have handled the technical aspects of this shot well. He jumps out of the image, very sharp and great colour, and the difficulty of (I imagine) the bright BG you have managed by making it B&W, still retaining enough to give situational context but not be distracting. nice one. cheers, Steve

Hi Santo, splendid portrait of this street artist with wonderful partial desaturation, very well done, ciao Silvio

Ciao Santo,
grandissima espressione di questo artista di strada, la foto e costruita veramenete bene con lo sfondo desaturato e perfetti colori sul soggetto accompagnati da una splendida nitidezza.
ottimo lavoro
Giorgio

Hi Santo!
They are around all the world, and it is a pity nobody knows who was the first one to do it. The quality of your photo is very good, with sharpen details and nice golden.
