Photographer’s Note
Alice in Wonderland
We, Alfred (alftrek), Bill (trekks) & I were on top of hanging rock when it started to rain, it was only light at first but the skies were getting darker by the second and we knew that if we didn't find shelter immediately we would get drenched.
Quickly we lengthened our stride & made our way to the visitors information centre. The heavy downpour lasted only several minutes, as we headed for out car we noticed a spectacular double rainbow. Quickly we ran looking for an open space to capture this phenomenon, in our haste we did not see a herd of kangaroos & we frightened them away. Picture this, three grown men running around, exited over this rainbow that we thought would disappear within seconds, we were acting like 15 year old school boys yelling out to each other because one of us had found the ideal spot. The Kangaroos hearing such a racket ran for their lives & hid amongst the trees.
We managed several shots each, I think two of us ( two out of three ain’t bad , a song by Meatloaf ) captured the kangaroos as they made their getaway, we also managed to capture a couple of the Crimson Rosellas sitting on the fence. There was no time for changing lens, I had my fisheye on, as it all happened so quickly, it was still drizzling, camera & lens both got wet but who cares, I came away with this, a shot that is very Australian & I think quite unique.
It seemed a dream, a mirage, something surreal; it was a feeling of being in a Wonderland.

Hello Santo
How are ya? Not just any old rainbow, you have two skippys under this beautiful viewing with fine colours and detail. I like the bend from the fisheye indeed.
Something I will never see in my life so TFS

Hello Santo,
At last...!
A picture from Australia with kangaroos!
A well framed scene with good details, and the double rainbow adds another attraction...
The varied light also adds life to the scene, dramatic sky!

Ciao Santo,
Ok?
Amo i koala.
Un abbraccio!

Hello Santo,
Maybe not the ideal circumstances for photographing animals, but these kangaroos are so perfectly placed under the rainbows that such shortcomings mean very little. What I find most amazing is the relative lightness of the sky under the lowest rainbow. I don't recall seeing this phenomenon before.

Hi Santo,
reading your note was great fun! I am afraid that you guys will never grow up. But the result was worth the riot. Very beautiful impression of this fascinating wild life scene, for me it is Australia in a nutshell. Your lens worked very well! TFS!

Hi Santo: It is always my dream to shoot full scale rainbow in a nice background/scene. The two kangaroos and the layered double rainbow making this a true signature from down under. Brilliant!

p/s: Dryer season is coming up and in Kedah, the dry season will hold till March next year. Kuching might differ than ours.

Hi Santo,
It must have been very funny to watch the three of you running around the park. At least you managed to get three of the boys also on the hop.
The double rainbow looks pretty special.

Ciao Caro Santo, this is one helluva Decisive Moment! A double rainbow and 3 kangaroos. Could fortune smile any more on a photographer? Yes! When, as you have, the photo is superbly captured with great depth and colour. So very Australian, Bill must have nearly had a heart attack! Love your work and enjoy your weekend, un abbraccio, Lisa.

Hello Santo,
This presents a real challenge to Lisa's post of her double rainbows. The big difference is you have got the 3 roos hopping under the rainbows, rare sight indeed. I have got nothing near to this, missing out on all the roos. I wonder why the sky below the rainbow is always brighter, just amazing. Your fisheye seems quite useful under this circumstances in getting everything in, excellent sharpness.

Ciao Santo,

G'Day Santo
And they're off and racing-Mum's in the lead and followed closely by little Joey and dad's coming up in the rear. Bloody Kangaroo's.
Nice capture with the double rain bow's and the kanga's in the FG.
Cheers

Hi Santo.
Your namesakes on the hop?
Great title for this and terrific little story about how you got it. The first double rainbow with kangaroos on TE, for sure. I thought there were only two roos, but just spotted the third further back in the sun on the rails. The fisheye is obviously good for more than close-ups. I love the sense of open space here, but think I'd probably crop it a bit, mainly bottom, left and top. One thing has often puzzled me - why is the sky inside the rainbow much lighter than on the outside? Anyway, it's a great capture by any standard, a real gem.

Andrew

So this was the surprise you announced last week? Eh?
Not only a double rainbow but also that strange phenomenon where the sky included in the smaller rainbow is paler than the rest! Never seen such a thing in my life. How could that happen?
I think the best feature of this photo is the fine light that creates a good chromatic contrast between the sky and the green lawn. The kangaroos and the eucaliptus makes it a very Australian photo. Your note is very "simpatica", I can imagine you and the other guys running like mad... ha, ha, ha!
Have a nice day (or night)

Hi Santo,
I like the natural phenomenon, while dark sky, bright sunlight and double rainbows appearing togather in a view, good frame to it with captured the kangaroos too, thanks for sharing.

Hello Santo,
this double rainbow looks like a Gate to a different world! Yes, maybe a Wonderland!...and those kangaroos appear to be here at the very right moment - to make the picture complete ;)
I like the special light mood which this photo conveys. This scene looks so idyllic and very inviting! Very good composition, too :)
Warmest wishes,
