Gioventù bruciata, a photo from Victoria, East

Photographer's Note

One of my father's expressions is "Gioventù bruciata" and I took it to mean that blend of Youth and Restlessness where acts can often occur without much thought and often with some disdain for the norm. In addition there is a degree of surliness, daydreaming and idealism, all of which puts the young at loggerheads with their parents' generation. We all went through it in our youth to lesser or greater extent.
Only yesterday I asked my father how did the expression come into his vernacular, but he had no idea. It was an expression used in Zadar (Zara)by the speakers of Italian. I found out on the net that it is the Italian version of the title of the film Rebel Without a Cause, staring James Dean.

This young lady's behaviour reminded me of the expression. She walked alone deep in some reverie. She did however notice the small TE group with their cameras. She proceeded to strike this pose giving us ample time to take a shot or two. No words were exchanged but she seemed pleased that we did notice her existence.

The town is surrounded by salt marsh wildlife reserves which provide habitat for hundreds of birds, including the critically endangered Orange-bellied Parrot of which there are less than 200 in the wild. Salt marshes are one of the most biologically productive habitats on the planet, rivaling tropical rainforests. The official motto for St Leonards is "Where everyday is Sunday"

I would say the lady improved your picture, otherwise it wouldn`t be very interesting with peeling paint etc.
Les and I were lucky enough to be taken around Sydney by a lady (Lisa) and her smashing hubby (Kevin) just two weeks ago .I wonder if they are part of your T.E.group?

Hello Klaudio - I enjoyed your note very much and the shot works well in tandem with it. I love the way the girl is standing on tiptoe showing off her beautiful tanned legs! Oh to be young and rebellious.... would I wish myself back there? NO. Warm regards rosemary

This is a very enjoyable photo, not just because of the young woman and her nice dress (and legs). It's a very well composed picture with fine details and an excellent balance between them all. The light is lovely and the horizon perfectly straight. Your note is interesting as well. Altogehter a fine contribution to TE.

this is a very well composed picture with superb depth and sharpness that describe the elements and textures accurately leaving the challenge of interpretation entirely to the viewer. I like very much how the girl stands out against the decayed textures and the dull colours and contrasts them. Her posture is really intriguing in that she is responding both to the view ahead of her and the viewers behind her. She had been communicating with you in an interesting body language. A very apt capture, congratulations and thank you!

Well, you beat me to it. Mine is almost the same, but a wider and longer view of the posts; the pose of the girl is identical. I won't upload mine at this stage, but maybe one day...
Good note! I'm not sure she was posing deliberately for us - can't you see that she's straining to look at the cormorants?

Dragi Dado,

ako te je čekala, onda te je i dočekala. Izvesno je da si iskoristio situaciju za najbolju provokativnu fotku. Utisak je takav da mi se ne ide sa ove obale. I fotografisao bih dan i noć.

PS. Ovde je radilo fotografsko oko a fotograf je bio skoncentrisan na zbivanja oko sebe.

I love the contrast between the glowing , healthy girl and the peeling and rusty paintwork.

Great composition and the eye is lead nicely in to the picture by the upright columns on the right.
