Photographer's Note

I missed the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival held in the Rhododendron gardens in Olinda by ten days or so. In that time we had terrible winds, rain and even hail. So by the time I visited the gardens the cherry trees had lost their blossoms. I did find a few blossoms still in excellent condition- maybe late bloomers.

Walking through this enormous garden with its myriad flowering bushes, rare trees and flowerbeds, one becomes aware of two things at once- firstly, the indomitable energy of Spring, the forces at play bringing about new life and beauty and secondly, the brevity of life and beauty as the ground becomes covered with petals and the trees and flowering shrubs lose their colourful attire.
