Photographer's Note
10 APRIL 2004, CITY SQUARE, MELBOURNE
City Square, Melbourne- a name for an otherwise open patch of gravel in the heart of the city centre.
This is a strange plot of land; too small to build anything on, plagued by a lack of insight and imagination... twice. It's first incarnation was a concrete block job of stairs, pits and walls.
Now it's a flat open space with gravel for a surface and grass mounds where you can, like this chap, collapse into a slumber.
To give you your bearings- Melbourne Town Hall is to the left of this location, Flinders Street Station and Federation Square is to the right and the Manchester Building is behind me to the left.

Sounds rather sad, and your photo backs it up, something that looks like wasted space and somebody sleeping in a rather undignified way. The posterfilled wall alsp shows that is not a square but just some unused squaremeters.
Composition, exposure etc. are well handled. Interesting shot.

Good shot, I really like the compo with all the straight lines (including the guy), The B&W is a good choice and you've achieved good contrast.

Nice shot Michael. Strong lines and tonal contrast are effective. The composition is good with the application of 1/3rds. The posters in the background add interest and a sense of place to the shot. Well done

First of all for B&W shot, I usually looking at the tone of it. This one got a very nice tone and great framing. I've been there many times, so of course I knew where is the place. However, for those who's been there only a few times may not recognise as a photograph could make a totally different image. Nice shot!
