Photographer’s Note
The deserted gelati kiosk at the Elwood beach, south of Melbourne's city centre. I stopped there one morning recently and fired away with camera for a few minutes. I was taken with the sunlight and the colours, and winter's hazy horizon. The yachts in the background are the ones moored at Brighton, which have featured in one of my earlier uploads. I cropped this one heavily to make it minimalistic, and ended up with something approaching square. But I thought the signs forbidding dogs and littering spoilt the slightly elegant look of the closed kiosk.

thanks for your informative reply...that explains your thorough knowledge about the wheelie bins!
I can see you are into landscapes...but why not if you can do them well. I like this because there is a hint of human life in there. I think this would just not have the same effect if the tables were not that gorgeous yellow colour...it goes well against those variations of blue...

Hello,
this crop works for me, this is the beauty of photography: by intelligent framing you can show only a part of the reality and convey an idea.
The light is wonderful, and gives these simple tables a very warm tone. This may be just by chance, but you have three shades of yellow (sand, tables, kiosk) and three shades of blue (water, sky, and ... "gelati").
Well done !

Hello Andrew
Wow! Talk about deserted, no people here, noone on the beach not even a sign of human presence, except you though...
Composition looks good, although the sign and the roof in the top left corner steals a lot of attention.
Colours are very striking, bright and understandable.
The angle of the light seems to be perfect as well, nice long shadows to create a moody atmosphere.
Thank you for sharing.

Nice one Andrew. Excellent use of space and objects. A lovely parade of shapes and colours.Reminds me of Fellini's work for some reason.Beautiful light doing its fine job even in the far distance. My compliments. Klaudio.

It sounds like your crop was very judicious. Also the early morning light is attractive on the scene. I like the strong lines and colours.

Hi Andrew,
Well I wouldn't call it minimalistic (maybe it is, compared to the uncropped version) but the play of colours (yellow vs blue) and light is fantastic! The yachts in the BG add interest and scale to the photo. Nice one!

Excellent crop, and a very graphic and well composed shot, Andrew. I've tried to take photographs at this exact spot, but it's not easy and I've never been happy with the results. The light you have here is fantastic and the blues and yellows are a very effective combination.

There is something almost ominous in the photo, and I cannot put my finger on it. The absence of life is part of it, and perhaps it is also the heaviness of the sky, but whatever it is, you've done it well... ... ...
Best regards

Andrew - This shot works because of your graphic representation and tight cropping with vivid colours.

Hi Andrew
I find Melbourne beaches have a special charm about them that you can't find elsewhere and they are more beautiful in winter than in summer. I like your graphical framing with the gelati (yummy), yellow tables and the yachts in the background.
