This shot was taken at sunrise on a foggy morning at Bundoora approx. 18km north of Melbourne CBD.
Bundoora is a suburb of Melbourne. The word Bundoora is Aboriginal for "the favourite haunt of the kangaroo".
Where is the bush?.
The bush is a term used for rural, undeveloped land or country areas in many places such as Australia, The term "to go bush" has several similar meanings all connected with the supposed wildness of the bush. It can mean to revert to a feral nature (or to "go native"), and it can also mean to deliberately leave normal surroundings and live rough, with connotations of cutting off communication with the outside world. The term bushwhacker is used in Australia to mean someone who spends his or her time in the bush or an older version of bushwacker is to hide in such areas and then attack unsuspecting passers-by: They would then say "We were bushwacked “
I think these creatures are being bushwacked by modern society who are moving in and driving them out.
On the WS version I have left the new light poles & surveyors markings.

The atmosphére here is very nice, specially on that trees in the background. The kangaroos are excellent as an interesting foreground. Very nice composition! Beautiful lights!

I like the colour of this image. It look like is on fire or something siilar. Nice image with the kangaroos well placed on the foreground. I guess the term Bush is similar to what we refer in Canada as the backcountry. Nice work Santo.

Hi Santo. The red country springs to mind when I see this shot. Excellent capture, well composed and I love the way the bush is disappearing into the haze. Nice work and thanks for sharing.

The title makes me think of Crawford range, Texas to find the man of this name, and the kangy can be his friends.
I am puzzled why the color is like burning flame, but it is very unique to find the kangy still comfortably hanging out here, so temperature is not in question, and the color is everything here to make it special.
Good work with cloning and WS.
pastadog (13111) 2008-04-26 1:37
Hi Santo, the light and the color tones are the key here IMO, and you also composed very nicely catching these group of kangaroos, and especially the background of trees... regards, Daniel

I find good your cloned out from original,it gives more feeling of wild life.I like the red atmosphere in the picture,it strengthens the image from the red landscapes from Australia. And the early fog in the trees at background also gives a special and misterious touch,as if these trees marked the frontier between fiction and reality.La composition is good, with the kangaroo spread in the scene looking us or watchful..

Hello santo. With this photo you landed a worth seeing hit. Motive, light, colors etc. are excellent. Above all the color seeming lifts the photo into the top class. Together with the informative text a outstanding achievement. Best regards, Wolfgang.

My great aunt lives right next to the park, I know that one you are talking about. It's such a beautiful place, and yes in the middle of suburbia. Really amazing. I have been on many walks there while visiting victoria.
The nice glow you have is very effective, a nice contrast of Australias native scenery.

Ahhh, I can see some of the national icons..!
They are cute animals to look at, and here they stand out well in the fine backlight...
Interesting to see how they use the tails as a third working leg!
kschanna (6) 2008-04-27 4:43
Excellent composition. The overlaying strong colors of the morning are amazing. Seems as though a couple of the roos are looking towards you, adds a nice personal touch to the picture. Very good job with cloning out the unwanted elements in the frame. I really like the framing.
Exceptional picture all over.
feather (51130) 2008-04-27 4:58
The combination of sunrise with the mist makes a wonderful atmosphere and colours. The back light is creating beautiful halos around the kangaroos, and I love the fact two of them are looking directly at you. Good cloning job too. Well done
Gundog68 (196) 2008-04-27 5:27
Great iconic image of Australian bush. Fog in the background almost looks like smoke from a bushfire- another iconic Australian image. This is helped with the colours too.

What great picture ...
Impressive light and colours.
You captured well the Australia of our imagination
alftrek (3270) 2008-04-28 1:03
The notes is very educating.
The colour in this shot goes very well with the title. It gives an impression that this is a painting done two centuries ago. The WS version is very well done. Good work
Miha2ou7 (5048) 2008-04-28 1:37
An incredible scene, the touch of the strong lighting in the background produces a wonderful romantic effect. One can really engage in it. Splendid work.
See you around.

To me, Bundoora, being on the other side of the city from where I lived most of my life, might as well have been another planet. However, I had reason to pass that way last week, on my way to and from the Whittlesea cemetery, and last year I went to the Yan Yean cemetery. I saw some interesting rustic sights, including derelict farmhouses, which would tempt me back with camera. And it's not far from the inner north of the city where I am living now.
Your shot is a beauty, partly because of your framing and the flat crop, and partly because of the early morning light and colours. You did a nice and necessary cloning job on those poles.
The foreground is nice and sharp, and the trees looks wonderful in the haze behind. Really nice picture and good note.

Hi Santo, beautiful image, really sweet, the kangaroos have very expressive eyes and you caught them here. With a soft background and great light... Nice work! chau chau,

Atousa (7131) 2008-04-28 19:45
This image looks like a painting..I like the atmosphere of it ;it is like being in an untamed nature..the colour has also added to its mood n beauty..thanks for sharing.
All the best, Atousa
marion44 (9) 2008-04-29 4:09
I like the way you worked on this photo (great number of "skippies" !!!); with those colors, the title could go in an environmental way as well, showing the danger of bush fires and impacts on the wildlife. The number of bushfires is something that really surprised me and I backpacked around, I would have never thought they were so commonly seen. Pretty alarming...
Thanks for your beautiful photo,
bobocortis (15946) 2008-04-30 1:15
A high-temperature picture!
It seems really burning!
Very nice shot with the kangaroos aligned on a slash line.
pboehringer (770) 2008-04-30 18:56
quite incredible mood with that orange/red dominating the whole scene. The photoshop with the cloning was very appropriate and avoided for sure several critiques in a sence that the lightpoles are disturbing. I just wish you could have gotten the kangaroos more close-up, but I'm sure that this was impossible. They look already quite suspisciously ready to jump away and leave you without nothing.
giorgimer (34816) 2008-05-01 15:05
WOW! Pure Australia! Great atmosphere, nicce red tones.
gunbud (34066) 2008-05-01 18:13

Good work, the composition is very good with the kangaroos in foreground. I like the format and the atmosphere given by the golden colours.
Seems they were looking at you:)
waminda2020 (413) 2008-05-23 0:57
santo, a wonderful capture - it almost shows Australia's soul. One of the best photos I have seen in quite a while - bravo!!!
worldcitizen (6713) 2008-06-15 12:32
This is such a surreal scene, and it's amazing that it is not far from an urban area. The red coloring is fantastic. The view of the trees in the background looks almost like a painting with the nuances of the lighting. Of course, it is wonderful to see the kangaroos, too! :-)
batalay (35125) 2008-11-30 20:57
You have captured a scene that is as close to a painting as I've seen anywhere on TE. The composition, colors and resolution are all all compelling, all collaborating like the instruments of an orchestra to create a beautiful symphony. Bravo,
Koopman (1247) 2009-01-16 16:04
Excellent picture, everything is already said.
See you in the bush
yquem46 (38474) 2010-07-23 14:51

Ciao Caro Santo, I thought I'd take a quick trip to Victoria before jetting off back to Italy :) This light really is unique in all the world, I don't think I've seen it anywhere else. And you;ve captured it beautifully. I love the roos too, they look like they've posed for you. Great shot, your light management isunequalled. TFS and I'll see you back in Bella Italia :) Un abbraccio, Lisa
Robert1969 (6944) 2011-10-23 23:58
A wonderful picture.
The great composition and the crop makes the picture
extra wide and makes the picture extra nice calmness.
The great light management with the sunrise and the
foggy morning creates a beautiful(and warm)atmosphere..
p.s. My apologize for my late response.
