Photographer's Note

Another shot from Bendigo which my friend Tim and I passed on the way to Birchip which is the town of his birth. I liked the stately houses and public buildings in Bendigo (my cathedral photo is from there), many of which were financed by the gold found during the heady and optimistic days of the gold rush.
This lovely art gallery was established in 1887 and is one of the oldest and largest regional galleries in Australia. As I wondered along its adjoining exhibition rooms, I came across many beautiful paintings from ages gone by and from artists who are not that well known, but whose work speaks to us across the centuries.
I have included in workshop a lovely portrait in which the subject's fabrics, skin tone and hair are delicately rendered in the gentle light from the window.
