I can only imagine what it must be like to visit this fragrant farm Leslie. Your shot is beautiful, the purple and red of the earth are superb and I love the lone tree that stands sentinel in the middle of the field. Top class in composition and execution and fancy it being named after an estate in Devon! Have a lovely weekend Rosemary

Beautiful composition, with the dramatic sky, the tree, the colours. TFS.

Lavender fields, wherever you look.
What a wonderful graphical effect. What I like most are the curving lines on the right at the back.
And this beautiful landscape is found under an incredibly beautiful cloudy sky.
The lone tree is placed perfectly on the picture.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Leslie ,
The composition is splendid , with the lonely tree and the lines of coloured lavenders .The poor light is well captured , under this atmospheric cloudy sky .

This is a fantastic image, obviously, but your true genius shows in the SKY. The PP throughout is well-handled (implicit and not overwrought), but you have succeeded in making the sky a partner with the land, when the lesser talents among us (like me) might have seen the great lavender rows and warm red soil, but not considered the sky as an equally important element of the scene.
Well done, teaching through example!

un pezzo di Provenza trapiantato all'altra parte del mondo. Una coltivazione splendida e profumata.
Bello il gioco delle linee creato dal terreno rosso e dalla lavanda.

I can see why so many photographers favor this spot, Les - gorgeous purple bands, and I love how they come together in the distance there. Great color despite - or perhaps because of - the overcast sky!

What an interesting note - and how wonderful that you can visit this place and also the place next door to you in Devon which gave it it's name!
It would be easy to say that, with a wonderful photographic subject such as this, it would be difficult to go wrong - but I know better! You have made the very most of the subject to compose a delightful photograph with some fabulous sweeping and curving lines and with all the elements of the picture carefully and pleasingly placed within the frame. The large tree is, of course, the "anchor" of the composition.
The soft light is delicious, the colours are divine, especially the contrasts between the purple/mauve lavender and the red earth, your exposure is spot-on and the details and sharpness exquisite. And all beneath a glorious sky, no doubt enhanced by your subtle and expert use of a polarising filter.

Leslie, beautiful image of the purple lilacs; great angle here showing clearly the lines between the rows in the field in the background. Nicely framed with the tree as well. Interesting sky as well. Thanks.

I was there in December, but did not get one as good as this. I blame it on the bad weather I had that day.....
This is very good.

"French view" - superb composed with many violet lines. I like the lonely tree in the field, that gives photo more interesting.
Have a nice weekend

This is not only a very well composed picture with fine colours, it's also a very carefully processed photo. The colours are well saturated, but not overdone, and you brought out every detail among the clouds. The long lines of purple plants look fantastic, but maybe my "hero" of the composition is the tree. It is perfectly placed and quite magnificent.

Ciao e buon fine settimana

On croirait un paysage de la Provence. C'est tellement beau et les couleurs sont si belles qu'on a envie d'y aller.J'aime beaucoup ce ciel est dégradé de gris qui porte le regard au loin vers les montagnes.

Fantastic depth and colour in this photo. The large tree also balances the photo very well.
I have posted a ws of this photo and although it is small I think it might convey what I am trying to say.
Hope you do not mind after all I would have not done the ws if I did not like the photo!

The sweeping curves of lavender are superb against the red/brown soil. I particularly like the more distant field with the sharp pattern. The cloudy sky and the lone tree all complete a clever composition.
Kind Regards, Ann

First of all, I would never have guessed this was in Australia. It's an amazing shot. The composition is great: nice, irregular sky, amazing lavender fields forming a curve and creating perspective, the low mountain line in the background and the amazing tree contrasting with the purple flowers. I love it!
