Photographer’s Note
The subject of this photo is very serious but the sign isn't without a touch of humour.
Correction: I was wrong in the info given (I had mentioned the deadly blue ringed octopus) - it seems that this sign is box jelly fish which you can use vinegar for initial treatment - for details see Matt's critique.

Hello Ian,
I would prefer a risk to be to attract by sirens:) the panel is unknown for me in France, it is thus a discovery and an original photograph. Pretty composition with the branches. Good idea. Cheer.
Have a nice day.
Cordially.

Hi Ian,
so there a still some places on Planet Earth you don´t

Hello Ian,
Yes, blue ringed octopus are a danger in northern Australia also, but this sign is in reference to the box-jellyfish (also called sea-wasp). They do not bite, but rather pose a risk to swimmers of entanglement with their very long and venomous tentacles . Blue ring octopuses are not usually encountered out in the open water but rather in the rockpools and reefs (much smaller). The box jellyfish can be in all parts of the water (along with the crocodiles and sharks) so swimming is never a good idea! The vinegar helps to break down the hair-like barbs which cling to the skin. Good to show this sign, I'm sure it's a favorite with tourists.
Matt
