Fraser Island

After a picture with an easy landing on the beach hard wet sand today I am posting something quite different but yet related to sand surfaces. During our three days tour of Fraser Island we came across this pathetic scene. A group of tourists had just stuck their 4WD up to shaft drive and they were still accelerating to try to move forward when we arrived. No need to say that they were going nowhere if it was not for the help of our truck driver (you can see him giving instructions to the driver, just in front of the girl on the left hand side).

Driving on loose soft dry sand is not an easy task and should only be done by experienced drivers. Remember that this is a sand island and the tracks can be quite narrow and going along the edges of the hills with a drop of several meters to the side. So, it can be dangerous if people do not know exactly what they are up to.

Here, the story had a happy end with all those backpackers going back and choosing a different track to travel across the island.

In WS is the picture of the scene at the time we arrived.
