Photographer’s Note
Fraser Island
The Seventy Five Mile Beach is the only licensed beach runway in Australia. The hard packed sand below the high tide mark makes a quite smooth driving and a very safe surface for aircraft landing.
Joy flights over the Fraser Island operate all year round and are a great way to see the entire island in a short space of time, with the obligatory exciting beach landing. The highway rules state that all vehicles must give way to aircraft if they are oncoming!!!
Just for your information, it costs A$70 for a 15 minutes flight and the two planes work continuously all day. Not cheap but yet quite affordable.
The main posting shows the plane on its first morning landing the day we went for a flight over the island.
In WS you can see the first group of 7 tourists taking off for their ride.

Josep

Hello Antonio! baba_flies means actually that Barbara flies sometimes in little Cessnas (two or four seaters) just like this one, but not as a pilot but as a pilot's girlfriend, and this picture makes my heart go faster, just a little, or maybe even a lot. I have never landed on a beach but many times on Australian runways. This is a beautiful picture with the ocean sparkling under the hot Australian sun with the waves approaching the land. Your take-off picture - by the way - is as good I find with the shadow on the sand but both ways are exciting, at least for me. Your picture is a little adventure for me, I just love it. Barbara.

Hi Antonio,
Nice beach, but this aircraft is fantastic! It is strange that it is possible tpo land on the beach, that the sand is not to soft. In Daytona there are cars on the beach. I like the sea, very drammatic.

Olá António,
Indirectamente eu pedi esta foto no meu comentário anterior ;-)
Espectacular.

Ciao Antonio,
besides the photo, I also have the passion for the flight (I am a pilot not professional of small airplane ultralight), for which this beautiful image is a true pleasure for me. Very beautiful and suggestive also the WS. Compliments, really a good job.

Olá Sr.António, really interesting photo and note of course. If the view from the above is fantastic, 70 A$ would be quite affordable. It looks like a virgin coast, without any man-made structure. Best regards, Tolga

Belo post.

Hi Antonio, A very good series of this famous sand island place. The plane adds another dimension. Good to see the surf running and the blue skies, something i am missing in China at present. When home easy to take that for granted. TFS. Murray.

Hi Antonio! Sorry for naming you Roberto...
Before I opened the thumbnail,I knew this must be fraser island.I spent three nights there and loved this unique place .And I remember well my hardest "english lessons"
We have been a group of 6 people:me ,a guy from Canada, one fronm the US,one from London, one scottish girl from Glasgow and one from ireland.I think,I did not listen and talk after 8 pm and a few VB.......too exhausting with my now 25 years ago learned schoolenglish.
A great shot, which reminds me to a wonderful time I had at fraser island and Australia.
I like the foaming ocean here and the two people in the distance.
Thanks for sharing.
Best regards,Leo

Hi Antonio,
That is just a great idea, leaving from the beach. You must have some great photographs taken from the sky?!
But I guess there will not at all be that many beaches that are suitable. Just a bit sand blown over the hard runway and you couldn't take off anymore. An if there's a lot of sand in the air, that wouldn't be good for the engine either.
Greetings, Dennis

This is beautiful landing place for a plane, i'm interested how hard the sand is. The two people from a distance gives us a sense of depth how long the runway is, the polarization of the sky is great too.. tfs

Hi Antonio,
Impressive place with endless looking sand beach. I guess that 'runway' isn't all the time as there must be bigger waves too, depending on the wind. Strong light is quite appropriate to this tropical place. Head-on PoV to the aircraft works well.

Hello Antonio,
This has got to be one of the rarest sight captured and posted on TE. At least, I have never seen one with a plane landing on or taking off from the beach out of hundreds of beach photos. Both of the shots are first classed, but I like the one in the workshop which has the plane in action. The underside of the plane is well lit by the indirect lighting reflected from the white sand. A same shot of the beach without the plane would be absolutely uninteresting.
Thanks for sharing so many great photos from your holiday trip.
Best regards
Alfred

Antonio,
what a weird landing place and I wonder how well trained this pilots must be to land with the sea breeze that actually blows laterally rather then the usual frontal. I'm sure that it must be a quite unstable taking off and landing. Personally, I prefer the WS that has a real dynamic with the plane in the air and the shaow on the ground.

Hello Antonio,
Your plane is quite a discovery for me... I had no idea that it was possible to land on a beach! If you would have made the picture lying on the beach, the wings of the aircraft would be in the sky and not just at the horizon...
