Photographer’s Note
With year-round south-easterly wind, huge sand dunes on the island move at the rate of 1 - 2 metres a year, burying away everything on the way, thus making sand on the island extremely rich with nutrients.
According to the legends of the Kabi people (native land owners), the dunes were coloured when Yiningie, a spirit represented by a rainbow, plunged into the cliffs after doing battle with an evil tribesman.Much of the sand colors stem from the rich content of minerals in the sand, such as rutile, ilmenite, zircon and monazite.

I have found it difficult to find information about the Red Canyon on Fraser Island, so if anyone can supply some please let me know!

Hi Mike,
nice shot of the canyon with great colors. The sky transmits a special atmosphere, looks like it was about to rain. Nice composition, very well done.
Greetings

Hey -
What an impressive sand dune! I like this shot very much, especially with that dark and ominous sky.
Well shot,
Dave
