Photographer’s Note
Another cityscape this time from down under. Also another scan from a slide. This is Townsville from our hotel room at about 5 am. I looked out to see this beautiful light. I did enhance the contrast by about 20%.

Hi Phil,
Great view with a very atmospheric early-morning feel. The pink light makes it almost surreal. I particularly like the way the clouds reflect in the river.
It may be subjective but it feels to me that there's a slight tilt on the skyline and on the bridge in the foreground. I'd be tempted to try rotating left maybe a degree.

Hello Phil! At 5am! Ha, I really admire you! BTW the hotel has great views! Well, looking out was really worth it: the colour of the city, water and sky is extraordinary. I don't like very much the greenish bridge in the foreground, and would be tempted to crop the photo there. Being a scan of a 1993 photo, the quality is very good (except in the sky, which is a bit bizarre, though that may be the compression).
A very serene scene with a magical colour!
TFS and best regards,
Inés

Hello Phil -
This is a nice image and a very good conversion. Was the light really this color? It looks just a bit odd to me.
Thank you for sharing.

Hi Phil,
Wonderful view capture from your hotel room of this lovely harborside canal as it leads out of the habor to the distant ocean and dramatic pink sky. Lovely colors, depth, details and sharpness to this fine image.

Hello Phil
The picture is well balanced with the bridge on the bottom, the city in the middle and the sky at the top. The point of view is very good. I like the winding river crossing the city.
Well done!
Best regards
Denis!

Hi Phil, great colour in this shot, with your 5 AM rise and a decent job of conversion from the slide. Townsville out to Magnetic Island never looked better.
This is more than a study of colour and contrast in a picture. It is a time capsule of this great town taken some 14 years ago.
I have something to share with you, in the workshop. I took a shot from Castle Hill last June. I've cropped out a small piece of this which doesn't have the same angle (or great colour), but hopefully you'll see some of what you saw 14 years before, along with some differences of course, and you might even see your hotel from here.
Thanks, John

Beautiful capture, Phil.
That light IS just awesome and I can't believe how sharp and clear it is from a 15 year old slide. I love those early morning tones and that glass calm river with the wonderful cloud reflections. What a great shot!! Thanks and have a good one,
Shelly

Great light Phil. Only reason for me being up at 5 am would be to go to the toilet ;)
Seriously though it is a fantastic time to get this kind of light and the detail is very good with a plesing overall scene of the cityscape. Whenever I try a cityscape they just look bland.

Hi Phil,
Once more the scanning took away a lot of quality from this shot, especially the sky. How I wish you were in NY, and I could drop by to see the originals :) The photos look really really nice. Fantastic composition. WEll done.

Hello Phil,
Interesting photo, there are not enough shots of Townsville on TE, it is a beautiful city and deserves more photos like this. The Townsville area has had about 100-300ml of rain over the last 24-48 hours so I expect the river here to be quite swollen as we speak. Awesome sky, it looks remarkable - I like the profile of Magnetic Island hovering over the horizon. This is good quality for a photo of this age. I visited in 93, I was only 4 at the time but I remember passing through in our car during out visit. TFS.

Hello Phil
The colours are surreal. What grabs attention is the contrast of the greenish roads with the pinkish hue of sunrise. Also beautiful are the dots of artificial lights & the reflections on the river. Quality of the scan is very good. Good work!
