Photographer’s Note

I've just come back from a 2 day visit to Moreton Island located about 40km off the coast from Brisbane in Queensland.

I can't believe that this little island paradise is only an hour from my home. Two days was just not enough time to explore this wonderful place.

I stayed at the Tangalooma Resort and there were so many activities to do, you would need a week to cover them all.

I took a walk along the white sand beach to the ship wrecks and took a few photo's this is one of them. Along the walk I spotted a few star fish swimming around in the crystal clear waters and a couple of dolphins swimming just off shore.

The resort has a dolphin feeding program which runs each night and I waded into the water and fed a female dolphin who had a calf at her side, it was a real treat.

Hired a tinny (a small aluminium boat) and circled the ship wrecks for a different point of view. The water was so calm and the most awesome colours where it goes from shallow to deep and then shallow again, thanks to the many sand bars around the island.

I will have to go back and try the quad bike trail rides, helicopter tours for aerial views as well as tours on land and water to view the many different wildlife that inhabits this area.

I used a polarising filter for the first time, amazing how it brings out the beautiful colours of the ocean. This has also been the first time I have seriously tried out the Canon 40D as well as taking some pictures in RAW format, I still have a long way to go, but am enjoying the challenge.

You are right, that this is a little island paradise but such thing like this ship wreck ruin it.
A very important picture showing how people destroy the beauty of nature.

This is a strange scenery indeed, you have captured expertly the contrast between the wrecked ship and the awesome beautiful colours of the sea.
Anyway, it's a really beautiful sea with crystal clear water and powder sand beach.

Hi Jude. Enchanting spot with its amazing colours, clear water and clean sand. The shipwreck looks like an anachronism here in this pristine shore.Your note was equally enchanting as you talk about the mum and daughter/son. Regards. Klaudio.

Looks very much like ship reck, in a beautiful surrounded sea which shows amazing colours with the yellows and blues. You handled the brightness well, good luck with the RAW it will come natural to you soon.

I've been here a few times, never failed to amaze me that some government idiot thought it would be useful to dump these rusting hulks into the water on one of the most beautiful stretches of beach.
Nice looking shot, colourful and sharp. I like the line of clouds on the horizon and the tropical blues of the water.

The fidelity in the colors are extraordinary, clearly augmented by the circular polarizing filter, mounted on your new camera. What a wonderful discovery for you to find this paradise just an hour from your home. Unlike visitors, we so frequently take our surrounding for granted — I've seen more of Washington, DC, just in showing friends around the the city.

Warm regards from the diametrically opposite end of the globe. (In a class this morning, I was demonstrating mathematically that, within the earth, the gravitation acts as a spring, and jumping into the hole would lead to oscillation back and forth through the entire earth — in the manner of a harmonic oscillator. The point diametrically opposite mine in Washington, DC/Virginia is a point in the Indian Ocean 800 miles SW of Perth. It would take 44 minutes to reach Perth, and unless someone reaches and grabs us, it would take 88 minutes for the entire round trip.)

Dang! It's amazing ship captains tried to go near there. I'd be scared out of my mind if I saw this sight, haha. Nice shot. The polarizer did its job, and I'm glad to see you know how to use it--it literally took me years to figure it out, hahaha! Composition is quite good here. Isn't RAW awesome? I've only shot in RAW for about 5 months, but there's no going back for me. Nice work.
