Photographer’s Note
Yesterday, I spent my Sunday whale watching just offshore the town where I live.
Every year the magnificent Humpback Whale (megaptera novaeangliae) migrate to and from Australia during the months of May to November. As they make their way through the warm waters, they feed, mate and play in the clean clear blue waters of Queensland.
Intelligent and naturally curious mammals, the whales greet their visitors with playful behaviour that will both charm and inspire any person.
The Humpback Whale is a mammal which can range between 12 and 16 meters long and weighs approximately 36 tonnes.

Also, you can find two different photos in WS. They show how close we can get to the whales.

Ricardo

Boa António, ou melhor, muito boas. A minha favorita é a "view 1". Grande post!

Olá António. Adoro as tonalidades do azul profundo do mar.

Hi Antonio: I saw the very same kind of whale at the Dominican Republic back in march and it was one of the highlights of my life. Your photo has made me remember that moment where I experienced the greatness of living. Also I love the moment you prensent us here, with this two playing. Gracias Antonio.

This is a great shot Antonio. I like the deep blue of the water, and how you've caught one whale with its flipper in the air and the other blowing out. Good timing.
Cheers,

Gosto tambem do azul forte do mar.
Um abraço

Hi Antonio,
lovely photo of one of the most precios animal species (my fav actually, after the dolphins). Well caught moment and beautiful colours.
I saw your critique on Marek's photo and I hope you will allow me the liberty to state my opinion. I didn't read the note as you did, namely to represent Lisbon as a dangerous city - I still dream of visiting it - and besides, which big city in the world is completely safe nowadays? we can't close our eyes to reality.
Just my two cents, I hope you don't mind.
best regards

Hi Antonio
Have you been to Morgans Seafood at Scarborough yet? I miss that place. I occasionally used to go there & purchase prawns, crab, oysters, fish, chips with lemon juice etc, & dine at one of the many ocean parks along the foreshore. Good shot of the whales. I'm glad they're not on the menu!

Josep

Olá António,
What a perfectly framed compo; two whales, surrounded by cerrulean water, one showing its fluke and the other blowing. Truly the shot of a lifetime!! Some of your critics speak of luck, but it took more than luck for this shot; it took skill and being prepared. Being a sailor, I've seen whales many times, but I didn't have my camera or didn't think to it or the pecture didn't come out as good as yours.
I also read your intro and want to tell you that I think you were really smart to emmigrate to Australia before you were too old. I was too old when I thought of doing it. You're living in the most perfect part of the world in my opinion.
Regards, Pat
