Photographer’s Note
Moo-loo-la-ba! One of those unique Aboriginal words that just rolls off the tongue!
Mooloolaba is a coastal retreat about 100 kilometres north of my home in Brisbane, Queensland. Long it has been a prime holiday destination for locals and international travellers. Not as developed commercially as it’s ‘big sister’ the Gold Coast 200km to the South, the Sunshine Coast seems to retain it’s relaxed atmosphere. This view is taken from the Mooloolaba spit, facing NW towards Mooloolaba proper with the small skyline of resort units, and Alexandra Headland.
This is the first time I have ever been yelled at for taking photos; a group of teenagers celebrating ‘Schoolies Week’ (School leavers) came out of the water demanding to see the camera and calling out ‘paedophile!’ alarming others around them. I assured them that my only intensions were to capture this sunset, and that they were to keep their sandy hands off my Canon.
I had the option of adding more saturation in PP but I wanted to leave it as it was, I like the very subtle colours and rosy hue cast over the water. About an hour later, I took my
Maroochy Twilight photo.

The colours and hues of the sun spread so vividly across the scape here and are very well captured. the perspective and pov are great and the lights are well managed

Hi Matt. Good composition with the curve of the ocean into the beach and the buildings being the key details. The colours are just right to give the evening glow so much a part of this beach-scape. TFS. Murray.
PS Hope you get to Malaysia including Penang Island, a wonderful, very affordable destination with English spoken virtually everywhere.

Hi Matthew
Schoolies Week should be banned. At least it didn't exist when I finished school. You wouldn't think they have just finished their education.
Anyway, thank goodness you managed to get the shot as it's very pretty with the soft light, a rolling wave, the silhouettes of the people, and of course the gull. The eye really follows the curve of the bay.
I only saw this place in daylight, one day in 93. The aquarium was pretty good.

Nikki

Hi, Matt -
Here in the States we have "spring break" - the object of which appears to be get drunk and laid (generally in that order) as many times as possible. I've had to put up with a few of them when I lived near Miami.
On to business: Very good use of curves and colors, and you did well to give most of the space to the sky. I agree that the subtle coloring would have been diminished with more PP.
Regards,
Dan

Hi Matthew
A superb beachscape, & sunset, with excellent sharpness / colour. The 'schoolies' obviously know nothing of photography, as you'd need a powerful 600 mm lens, to get shots of people on the beach. Not that I'm advocating it! This is obviously taken with a wide angled lens around 28 mm. I recall taking shots around my old flat in Brisbane with a macro zoom, (example here,) and the next day, the local Police questioned me on my way to work. It turned out that the women across the road thought (wrongly) that I was recording their activities.
This was a few years before the "Moonlight State" was screened on ABC TV, the subsequent 'Fitzgerald Report', & the fall of the Joh Bjelke Petersen Government. Anyway, I did some detective work of my own, & discretely recorded the rego numbers of all vehicles coming & going into the residence across the road, where the 2 complainants lived. There were approximately 40 different vehicles in less than a week. Good friends? I doubt it! So you're not the only one, ever accused of less than salubrious activities with their camera. I can laugh about it now, but it wasn't funny at the time.

Hi Matt,
This is a gorgeous shot of my favourite beach. What can I say? It's all good.
Mooloolaba...I remember going to the dentist in Brisbane as a kid and when asked to spell it for my address, I would spell it as fast as I could. Of course they'd ask me to repeat it, several times and every time I'd go as fast as I could. The things that amuse kids!!!!
