Australian's aren't big strawberry eaters. On average we consume between three to four punnets each a year. In America it's 16 and in some parts of Scandinavia it's 28! The Australian strawberry industry is worth up to $150 million dollars each year, and produces an estimated 20,000 tonnes or 80 million punnets of strawberries each year.
Almost half of that production comes from Queensland in winter and spring and the rest from the southern states and WA during the summer and autumn period - providing a year round supply of strawberries and little competition for Queensland during it's season.
Australia exports strawberrys to Japan, Korea, South East Asia and the Middle East.

Hi Ian, I like the perspective view of the field. The straight lines of green are very attractive in this photo. The contrast of green ground and blue sky make a very inviting harmonic farm life. Thanks for the informative notes.
I commented one of your fresh posting on Virgin Airline aircraft today. For some reason, right after my submission, the photo disappeared.

I think you should eat more of them strawberys instead of exporting them. It's healthy and they taste delicious. I think I eat at least 28 punnets - last week I had 4 punnets of quite tasteless imported water tasting strawberry lookalikes. Can't wait for the real stuff that needs to grow slowly to get the good taste. You can't hurry taste...
Oh yeah - the picture. I like the green homogenous field that to the left becomes green rows. Good that you caught the little tractor as well.

Beautiful shot, Ian. The lines create such a beautifl pattern and the tractor adds so much where it is.
We, Israelis, eat more strawberries, I don't know how much in avarage, I can speak only for myself andmy family - a lot.

Strawberry fields for ever. I like the green and brow lines of the field. And the small tractor showing the scale of the field.

Excellent lines and furrows here, Ian. A good depiction of the subject, which is often difficult to portray. I wish the tractor were just a little larger to give a touch more dynamism to the shot, but all in all it is a great capture. Regards, John.

Very well done.

Intresting note. I didn't know that Scandinavians and Americans eat much more strawberries that Australians.
Nice photo with great fresh green colours and a nice blue sky. I like the lines, because they give a good depth to the photo.

A mes yeux voila a quoi ressemble le paradis: un immense champs de fraise ;o) C'est tres impressionnant, le tracteur nous donne une echelle de grandeur, et les sillons nous donnent de la profondeur.
Une image tres belle, techniquement tres reussie

hi ian, this is again a very good shot - i love those green cups on the top of the soil rows; excellent use of the simple (one would say) ordinary view;

I love this kind of lanscapes and I love the drawn that the lines of the plants create here and that you achive to transmit to us. Thanks a lot.

De quoi attraper une indigestion de fraises ou des courbatures pour les ramasser, rien qu'à voir ces champs immenses. Belle POV avec ces sillons.
La note est un plus car très instructive.
ChrisJ (117855) 2005-04-03 4:37
Good linear perspective, with excellent sharpness & colour. The tractor adds depth. Well seen. Now all we need is a truckload of cream &/or icecream!

Hi Ian, we had lots of strawberry farms in Auckland, NZ, but the land has been grabbed up by developers. We also have lost many orchards too. Pity.
Good landscape here - very green. Well done.

As a child I used to pick strawberries in the summer for extra money, so this photo brought back that memory. I love the lines running into the distance, the bright green of the plants stand out well against the brown earth. What a nice photo.

Good POV for this. I like the down the rows look of it. Good message about the subject making it interesting. Having the tractor there in the distance adds life to it. Well done.
