During the summer months, Heron Island is home to over 100,000 nesting Noddy Terns jostling for space on the tiny 1km long Coral Cay. Sharing their island home with them is noisy and sometimes messy, but an amazing experience, especially at sunrise. I like the colours in this image but think its let down by the flatness of the beach and sea. My dodgy wide angle lense has warped the horizon too....

Hi Sam, Welcome to TE.
To catch a good sunrise picture is much harder than to catch a good sunset picture, because of the sunrise condition is more unpredictable. You did a great job catching an incredible sunrise picture.
The pattern of the cloud is beautiful. The reflection of the sunlight on the ocean has clearly shown the waves. The birds (specialy the middle one) have made the picture very attractive.
Congratulations to your outstanding first photo in TE.

Hi Sam, welcome to TE! It's a nice entry too. I'm not huge on sunset's to let you know but this is alright. I like the addition of the gull, but wish you had snapped it up a touch earlier so the gull was in the middle of the empty blue patch of sky and the clouds were like a halo.

Welcome on TE, Sam ;o)
A real promising first image, even with the small inconvenients you wrote in the note.
The white patterns of the clouds in the sky are really nice and still impressive with the use of the wide angle lense.
And the range of colors is excellent.
Have a nice stay on TE !
