Photographer's Note

Here is another photo of the Great Barrier Reef taken from my plane window on a flight between Brisbane and Hong Kong. The reef is a precious and remarkable place, as fragile as it is beautiful. Hundreds of reef section like this collectively form the Great Barrier Reef, the largest in the world, which runs along the coastline of Queensland from Cape York to north of Fraser Island.

The reef shown here is huge. It is 19 kilometres long and 8 kilometres wide and is found 50 kilometres north of the city of Cairns.

This reef is Batt Reef, and is sadly the location where Steve Irwin passed away in 2006.
