World Environment Day has been celebrated every year on 5 June since 1973. Its purpose is to call attention to the protection of Mother Nature and Planet Earth. This year, the theme is "Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level", which is directed towards combatting global warming, rising sea levels and climate change.
This photo was taken in the Daintree Rainforest, home of one of the largest ecosystems in Australia.
I'll be offline for the next 4 to 5 days as I'll be with Greenpeace & 350.org.au's the Frontline Action on Coal Convoy in the Pilliga region of our State protesting open-cut and coal seam mining ("fracking") at the Leard Forest Blockade.

Yes Lisa, "fraking" is the "washed" verb in modern way to hurt the environment, just not over the open surface - but underneath.
The rainforest distruction had already made harm to local people in Brasil, so fight and save Aussie-forests.
Nice "green" photo, double meaning here - wish I could join this protest.

Most interesting this tree wound round with what looks like giant creeper stems. Light management is perfect with these lovely varied shades of green. Good luck with the protest, let's hope it bears fruit and the politicians sit up and take note.

Gidday Greenpeace Lisa,
Kudos to you for not only a fine rainforest scene with the dominant roots winding around the main tree, and pathway leading deeper into Nature's realm, but also doing something to help preserve it.
I envy your work on fighting for our Earth.
I can remember our Ecology professor saying: "Damn the aesthetics, protect the environment for the survival of Nature not just the beautiful places".
President Obama has issued an executive order for coal burning plants to reduce emissions thirty percent.
Now the big battle starts, for the Rich & Greedy are propagandizing why this is the wrong approach.
Because for them profits are more important than the Earth.
and best wishes for Greenpeace's successes,

Ciao e buona serata

Hello my dear green friend. Good luck with the protest; from your mouths to the powers that be's ears! I love forests and I know that they are tricky to photograph you've managed the light well here and using the huge tree trunk with the Strangler Fig (that's what I assume it to be) climbing up it makes an interesting analogy. The Strangler will eventually kill its scaffold and support. Here's praying that we don't do the same to our world.

Happy world environment day to you too! May your grass grow as green as jade, and may all your panda bears be proficient in roller skating! (there used to be an ad in Ireland for Kitkats featuring roller skating pandas, if you never seen it, that's an odd statement for me to make :) )
This is a beauty of a shot, and I get the feeling that you may have had to ask this tree to stop dancing for a moment so you could focus on its portrait. It has a wonderful sense of movement about it, and its surrounded by the most beautiful lush forest.
A great day to celebrate, and you know, its not even marked here in Ireland. I guess our powers that be are too busy fracking, erecting wind turbines and god knows what else to care about something like this.
I'm glad I learned of it here though, I'm off to give a geranium a hug in celebration :)
Great post, thanks for sharing.

What a wonderful tribute to nature and mother earth! The framing is masterful with excellent control of the exposure. The varied shades of green are peaceful and soothing to the eyes and the nerves as well. Superb post on Trekearth.
Thanks for sharing and wish you success in your endeavour.

Ciao Miss Lisa,
And a Happy World Environment Day to you and your efforts! A lovely way to mark the day with a picture firmly entrenched in the goal of preservation, what better to make the link than with the beauty of nature herself?!! Alive with character, the spiraling roots make for a whirlwind visual around this giant, and yet it seems very harmonious, as if caring for one another...something we should all take to heart. This must be a peaceful and enticing trail through the trees and foliage, and you put it all on fine display. Best of luck. Stay strong.
Cheers from the opposite end of the spectrum, the dusty dry desert.

Belle photo pour illustrer ton combat écologique. Souhaitons que nous puissions encore contempler de telles merveilles naturelles dans les prochaines décennies.

(I love to drink Carlsberg lager, it's so easy, no alcohol.)
Your photo has a very good reason, even in Austria run such Campania for our earth!
Wish you a nice weekend

Fantastique photo while bushbashing through the Rainforest, one of the oldest patches of rainforest in the world I thought this image is a perfect vision of tranquility and the title is spot on! I am impressed with the richness of the greens, the contrast achieved and such a great dof and soothing clarity. Great contribution. Well done shot, TFS

nice the view of this virgin area with the some of roots to clinch the huge trunk of the tree.I like the dense environment of the forest foliage as the excellent light and colour management of the scene.

Lisa, beautiful photo with wonderful filtered light from the back of the frame. Excellent POV, with the path leading off behind the huge tree. Lovely shot. Good luck with your government.

now thats a freaking tree!
the way the roots circle, twist and turn running up and over the tree is super cool.
Mother nature at her best!
I tried to sign the petition you wanted but i've been having trouble with the link. I'll keep trying though.
keep up the good work
