Photographer’s Note
Balancing Rock (7 metres high), is near the small outback mining town of Chillagoe, which is famous for its old copper mine, & limestone caves. Chillagoe is west of Cairns & the Atherton Tableland, in far north Queensland.
Taken midwinter, so all the grass & plants are dead. Bushfires are common here at this time of the year. The rock is 'karst', or limestone, the same as Guilin (China), Ha Long Bay (Vietnam), & Nail Island (Sth Thailand).

Hi Chris,
An impressive rock and a nice and well framed vintage shot with outstanding scan output and colors, light on the stones works perfectly and sharpness is great, I'd like to post a Devil's Pebbles one someday, but I'm still struggling with the PP...
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hi Chris,
Both of the rocks look amazing. The one with it's balance and the other with a small opening at the bottom and the balace as well.
Good composition with the angle. Two rocks in front of the bright sky. Good job.
Thanks for sharing...

Hi Chris, It is an amazing balance.
Nice contrast. I like your composition here including a portion of the stone next to it showing the similarity in this area. I think this photo benefits from the winter dry leaves. Well done.

Very impressive rock formation, Chris, that looks like being in a quite delicate balance. Good no-nonsense framing that presents the vital details with enough of the surroundings to understand the setting. Well done.

Hi Chris,
very impressive morphology of the limestone!
Looking at the image the "pebble" look 6-7 meters tall.
Nobody was so insane to climb it?

I am glad that you are standing far enough from this rock, Chris, it doesn't look so stable ;-)
Composition is very good, placing the rock in paralle line with the other group of rocks. It should be very nice when everything around is green. Very good shot.

Impressive rock and I can't remember seeing this in any of travel info I recently read about this area. You would think it would be a major tourist attraction in this area.
Anyway cool POV. TFS

hi Chris,
This is really amazing. So, there is no human influence in balancing the rock?
As a physicist, i find it very ironic, because with such a small contact area, the boulder has to be so perfectly balanced so that the center of gravity of the it is directly above the pivot point.
anyways, good shot.
