Photographer’s Note
Green Island (not to be confused with Green Island off Cairns) is a small coral cay island in Moreton Bay, about 20km from Brisbane's CBD. The reef around this island was unfortunately dredged, the coral used in cement making. Thankfully today this no longer takes place and the reef is protected and recovering.
The waters of Moreton Bay are shallow and warm, supporting some coral reef, extensive sandbank habitats, mangroves and sea grass meadows upon which dugongs feed. Common animal sightings in the area include bottlenose and Indo-Pacific dolphins, green turtles, an assortment of sharks/rays and seasonally humpback whales.
Moreton Bay has about 360 islands, almost one to visit for every day of the year. Many of them are covered in dense mangrove habitats, but at least 12 have permanent residents. Some of the larger ones, North Stradbroke and Moreton, can be seen in the background here. Green Island is small, only about 2km x 1km, is uninhabited and sits about 5km from the shore.

Matt,
a simple composition, almost minimalistic, and yet great with all the clouds in different patterns allowing a real study of the winds and meteorologic conditions of this place and moment. The little flat island gives a good anchor for the whole image.

Matt,
Beautiful open space with variation types of cloud across the clear blue sky. Great sharpness and clarity, color and light are just pefectly balanced. Very refreshing image, make one wants to be free, be outside to enjoy the sun shine, unfortunately most of us can not yet, but it's almost here, summer. Thanks so much for sharing.

Hi Matthew
Another wet weekend in Korea, so a blue sky from home, is nice to see. Good sharpness, colour, & with interesting cloud formations. The ferry from Cleveland to Dunwich goes past here. Think I read years ago, that Green I in Moreton Bay is mostly mud (that may have changed now, with coral regeneration), & Mud Island is mostly 'green; ie, coral. Nearby Peel Island is a place I'd love to visit one day. It has a sandy beach & coral reef. Tfs!

Hi Matthew,
The clouds are the strongest point here in this image. Crisp and bright, very impressive view in this excellent composed, cropped and framed image. Gives a nice summer feeling with the warm temperatures of Queensland...very nice.

Hi Matthew,
The variety of shapes and types of clouds is very nice and forms a spectacular image together with the thin sliver of island in the water. I especially like that you have chosen to show so much of the sky in ratio to the rest of the shot. Good clarity too. Regards

superb photo, Matt, I like a lot how light (as in "weightless") everything seems. good use of the minimalistic composition to focus attention on those gorgeous clouds, superb clarity and sharpness. excellent work.

Hi Matthew,
It's a good choice to put the clouds in 2/3 of the composition, You manage to adjust the ISO setting ( pls share) very well with a faster shutter speed. I'm guessing you are in a boat taking this picture.

Miguel.

As Henk remarked, the clouds are what makes this a great take: this beaut pic also makes me think I have to visit Queensland sometime soon, too!
Well done - again!

hi Matt
This shot recalls my own of Maiga island from a distance, taking in the vast blue sky and clouds and a tiny strip of island. I am sure the actual scene is very eye catching. In my case of Maiga island, it is purely a dune of sand on which coconut palms start to grow and some inhabitants built huts on it, with shallow waters all around. At least I am not the only person presenting island view this way?
You have posted a good sunny weather to highlight this island shot. Great work.

Hi Matt, this is interesting. Not only do you have a contrast between the sky and the clouds but between cloud groups as well with those great textures. I like the split you've done on this one with more emphasis put on the sky to help show off those clouds.
Thanks, John

Hello Matt,
You chose a very good square format, this make this picture very lovely.
The clouds to the sky give a really good photo with excellent composition.
I like this small island with the green vegetation as contrast against the soft colours generally.
Best regards,
John.

Hello Matthew,
Splendid composition in a very fitting sqaure format which gives power to the whole seascape. The amazing sky takes the most of the part in your image and this is the right choice in my opinion. If you have this sky you must compose in this way.The small island gives the color contrast!
I enjoy this photo very much together with the informative note!
many wishes,
Thomas

Hi Matt,
A great presentation of the island which in itself is almost featureless, but you have captured in with an interesting cloud formation against the blue sky.

Hi Matt. Good composition in which the clouds dominate even more than the island and water. Your eye is becoming keen and the cropping here is excellent. Colours real and beautiful. TFS. Murray.
PS Hope your studies are going well.
