Photographer’s Note

As I stood amongst the crowds who had gathered to watch the Anzac parade on Anzac Day I glanced up to this apartment building which overlooks Anzac Square - and I noticed several patriotic symbols. Two Australian flags hung from windows and a solitary lone pine tree stood below.

The Lone Pine is a name given to a solitary tree on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey which marked the site of the Battle of Lone Pine in 1915. Today pines are planted as a memorial to the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who fought in Gallipoli.
