Photographer’s Note
Sulphur Crested Cockatoos are the most common Cockatoo in our area - they are incredibly noisy and fun loving. While not as far ranging as the black cockatoos and not as agile as the corellas - they are still a challenge to photograph. Sulphur Crested Cockatoos are a medium sized bird with a bright yellow crest on their heads - in captivity they have been known to live over 60 years!
This photo was taken at the Wollongong botanical gardens on my "new" secondhand lens - which I am still getting use to - but results like this on the first outing are encouraging!

This is very nice Mark. The clarity you have on that in-flight cockatoo is awesome. Composition wise, you've got him perfectly placed in this crop with an amazing blue sky and Eucalypt green as a backdrop.
Thanks, John

G'day Mark,
A great capture of this cockatoo ! And perfectly framed, this is awesome !
Really noisy as you say ! When I arrived in OZ I found them so "exotic"... but after a couple of days having them letting fall hundreds of pine cones on my tent while eating or fighting against a goanna at 6am... I found our sparrows quite cool !!! I 'm joking... You've really got an incredible fauna in Australia which is an everyday fascinating discovery.
Anyway, I was there for your photo... congratulations !!!

Excellent shot, I really love how the cockey has spanned its wings. Such a good PoV, the colors are amazing, very good contrast between the bird and the sky.

Hello Mark,
It is great to see a wild cockatoo! Your capture is wonderful, with the wings fully outstretched, and the beauitful, blue sky. I would love having so many wild parrots around! Are they nervous around people, or can you approach them?
