According to geologists, the Perry Sandhills originated after an ice age (40,000 years ago) and are formed by wind erosion over thousands of years. The dunes are located just outside of Wentworth (6km from PO), and are a unique land formation of 400 acres of continuously shifting sand dunes.
Skeleton remains of giant mega-fauna (kangaroos, lions, emus and wombats) have been found there. Aboriginal tribes used this area to camp and hunt. Evidence of this is still being uncovered as the sands drift.
. Now, the area is utilised as backdrop for many films, T.V. shows and ads, theatre/music presentations

Another good one in your Perry Sandhills series - must have a look at them next time I'm out that way. It'd be best a few weeks after rain I guess. Hope that you're looking after Francesco down there this week!

Santo, this is a stunning image. The colours are so vibrant, the light just magical and as for the POV, you must have been inspired surrounded by such beauty. The textures of flowers, the waves of sand and of the clouds above make this a feast for the eyes. My compliments. You have been keeping this treasure for yourself for quite a while. Ciao. Klaudio.

Ciao caro Santo
I didn;t know you had ventured over the border! This is a wonderful shot, of a place not seen enough on TE. The flowers look 3-dimensional and the texture of the sand dunes and their amazing colours are fan-bloody-tastic. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a happy week with l'Assessore.

A nice idea to view the orange dunes through these pretty flowers, for a different take on sand dunes. Great patterns and textures as well as colour.

Hi Santo, interesting to compare your take on this scene with Peter's. Textures in the dunes contrast nicely with the flowers and the blue sky adds another contrast. I'll be out of town till the w/e and won't be reading email - so give me a call if there is a get together planned. cheers, Steve

fabianoleite (10464) 2011-05-10 19:12
Excellent contrast between the orange sand and the flowers and the sky. The result is fantastic and surreal. The waves of the sand are also very important in the composition. Congratulations!
danos (94242) 2011-05-12 8:18
the Perry Sandhills on the foreground and this goldish sand of the dune make the scene so great.I like the brilliant light as the vivid colours of the image with the contrast of the colours to are superb.

Me piase sopratuto l'efeto tridimensionae dei fioreti in primo piano, probabilmente dovuo aea perfeta nitidessa ea incredibie luminosità, quasi come stessimo vardando na diapositiva.

I don't have much experience from taking pictures of sand dunes, but I believe the compositions require a bit of thinking so they won't look boring. You have done well with this low POV that makes the dune a backdrop to the screen of flowers. The contrast between the weirdly orange sand and the light blue sky is stunning.
BluSimo (9392) 2011-05-12 12:35
bon fraidai ;-)
dal'emossion mè gò fin desmentegà de scrivarte in diàeto,,, pensa tì! ;-)

Unique colors of the sand Santo ,and theres only one place on earth where its so redlike this.
Always in great combination with the blue sky.

Ciao Santo.
Marino&Desy
Holy Hello. This picture took my breath from what is beautiful. The diagonal line that divides the 'orange sand with the blue of the sky, but it is already beautiful with the flowers that follow a line ... infinite, are fantastic. Not to mention the sharp and bright.
A greeting and good wishes for the evening ... Marine & Desy
