This is a photo of the Sydney Central Business District taken from the Domain. The motorway you see links the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney to the city.

Just a masterpiece! Superb work, excellent exposure, perfect DoF, this is one of the best photos on the Trekearth. Thanks!

A classic use of the long exposure but yours takes it to the next level! Perfectly controlled with superb colours and clarity. And, captured at the right time to provided collect light on both sides of the carriageway.

a superbly executed night shot this. Perfect light and exposure control with those magic light sabre streams that make it so compelling. The clarity and detailing are just perfect and the effect mesmerising. A classy piece of imagery!
Not sure they would allow me to drive through the tunnel with one of my beef madras's though! :-)

Very good long exposure at the blue hour over Sydney. The framing is very well chose. The city lights are like a magnet for the eyes. Very beautifull city.
Have a nice day

Ciao cara Lisa,
It seems as though it's been quite a while since I've seen photographs of motorways, freeways and autobahns at night: they used to be quite commonplace so perhaps people have tired of taking them?
But this one is far more spectacular than those which I can immediately recall! The lighting, the colours and the contrasts are truly spectacular.
You have chosen a perfect time to capture the "blue hour" and have those large modern buildings beautifully silhoutted against a magnificent sky. The huge sweeping roadway boldy leads us into the city with wonderfully bright light trails of white, orange and red.
A perfect and very strong composition with spot-on exposure, great impact and stunning sharpness throughout.

stunner of a shot.what light, what timing and technically great.fantastic pov.

Cioa e buona giornata

I know where this is!In fact I think that I may have taken a shot from the same place, only in the day time and of couse it`s not got anything like the impact that this has.
The passing cars have created some extraordinary light trails, red and yellow one side of the tunnel, with white on the other.
The sky has the blue hour colour whilst the sparkling lights are not intrusive, perfect timing all round I`d say.
Kindest wishes Les.

In some of the photos uploaded to the site, I was fascinated to see it, and the words, topping, I use
It is an attractive picture, take the cap off, to pay tribute to your photography
Have a good evening and good night

A beautiful night scene ... Timing and exposure is spectacular... Thanks...
ikeharel (72077) 2014-02-25 7:54
Headlights of speeding cars on the motorway, stretched under the 30 sec. exp. and beautifully lined along, Lisa.
POV with the high-rise buildings, illuminted and appear with great clarity on photo.
Fine night shot, just can't hear the engines roar...left-hand driving, as I reckon with the painted arrow on.
photoray (13981) 2014-02-25 7:55
You caught my attention with a night scene reminiscent of my alma mater - the Calif. Dept. of Transportation.
The long curving lights in yellows and reds make for an artistic composition, and the light bursts and building night lights. Ideally the long exposure makes the visual presence of autos disappear.
Hope your Mum is doing fine and enjoying the upcoming Autumn,
PS: Your freeway art reminds me of multiple ironies in my life: The first American freeway was built from Pasadena to downtown Los Angeles. I was hired by an ex Pentagon colonel who lived in Pasadena to work for Calif. Transportation in LA. And I was living in Pasadena at the time...
and thank you for the kind comments.....

I recognized the place immediately as I walked past the place after sunset at Mrs Macquaries chair and detouring because Bothanic Gardens was already closed. But then it was already dark. You were there on the right time. Blue hour sky looks good and light lines give a busy impression. I think I'd crop this from somewhere below that arrow.
tenretin (2561) 2014-02-25 11:05
You made a perfect shot there. It is very well composed and balanced colors are more natural. Pleasant thing the picture is very sharp and full of details... and no digital noise ! whaou !

Ciao cara Lisa,

Simply brilliant blue hour shot! You selected a great moment and a perfect POV for taking this image using a long exposure to capture this impressive view. Bravo! Excellent work.
Noel_Byrne (31410) 2014-02-25 13:14
This is incredible, and one of those shots I would sit and stare at for hours. I cannot do these light trails, so am always impressed by them, but doubly, trebly, even quadroobly so (best guess at spelling that there) by this. You have combined fascinating light trails, a wonderful skyline full of modern towers and the a,axing tones of the blue hour into a single amazing frame. The gold and blue work do well together too, so regal. I wish that someday I could take a shot half as good as this. Then again, with me not being able to do this, Ireland's lack of skyscrapers, and all our motorways running through fields, it seems unlikely.
Have a great Wednesday. Middle of the week, Yeay!
krzychu30 (15512) 2014-02-25 13:41
it´s definitely something in my taste and I´ll just say-I love it!
This is a shot, which captures well dynamic and vibrant character of Sydney. And I enjoy here this strong contrast between yellow lights of the traffic and beautiful blue of the sky.
Have a nice day

ACL1978 (7511) 2014-02-25 17:25
Lisa - a really clasisc night shot, and you found just the perfect spot, as the road curves and bends to create a river of light. The sign standing still amidst it all is a great touch as well. But I will say that you people drive on the wrong side of the road, and it's still weird!
Have a good night,
jcpix (13930) 2014-02-25 18:44
Hey there ADB! (Works for me too. :))
I was quite surprised to see this was one of yours, a bit different from most...and I like it, I like it a lot!
It's such a dichotomy of element, you've captured and created motion...but not a single object to pin it to!? :) These are fun shots, but not always the easiest to pull off with such efficiency. You've done it though, and with the blue hour sky to go along with the orange tones and red lights, it's a winner! The oncoming traffic and white headlights make for a lovely compliment in tandem. Soooo, I take it there's no speed limit here, everyone is really driving this fast?? lol Have a great one dear V2. Take it easy.
Cheers from the top side,
Thanks for the laughs today, Axl's tighty whities were classic....classically horrible, and his corn rows were just as bad! I always thought "Welcome to the Jungle" was a reference to their teased up, gnarly 80's butt rock hair.

loved this on FB this morning, and love seeing it here.
i love your capture of the car lights, like jeweled ribbons. and the star lights are magical. all leading to the sapphire city. better than oz! well done :)

Excellent composition of the roadside streaks from Sydney.Very well composed photo with excellent vivid colors. TFS.
macjake (68386) 2014-02-26 0:48
do you know how long i've been asking you to show us a new view of Sydney!
I guess I can stop my timer now!
I need a calculator to add it all up! haha
Just kiddn' of course.
But there's no kidding around with this shot.
its packing a punch to my visual senses.
love the curve, love the streaks, love the reds and oranges and blues.
love the honeycombed windows, love the 2 different flows of traffic - red/white lights.
She's a keeper!
Have 4 days off now! yeah :)
Subhogen (4067) 2014-02-26 1:04
What a fine night shot. I wish I could take a shot like this. The car trails lend great dynamism to the image as viewer I feel I am standing still as the world is whizzing past me. Love the street lamps twinkling like stars. The well lit skyscrapers provide for a amazing backdrop to the scene. Excellent photo. Nicely done and thanks for sharing.
dkmurphys (59145) 2014-02-26 1:35
Amazing dynamic scene. I like the idea and the perfect quality result. Well done!
lousat (91950) 2014-02-26 2:13
Buona serata,Luciano
mkamionka (37141) 2014-02-26 3:09
beautiful blue hour photo. It has all one could wish for. The fantastic foreground using well the late time of the day with the lights, and the star shaped street lights. The geometry is fantastic with the car trails making a pleasant curve and ending up at the bottom of the straight modern buildings. I like the arrow on the road which points towards the main view :)
I was not entirely sure on which side of the road you drive over there but I see you also use the wrong side of the road.
Great POV, very smartly used. Quite an original view from Sydney. It makes me think if I could try something similar near where I live now when the days are still short here but nope, no chance for anything like that...
Spectacular composition, congratulations!
abmdsudi (54503) 2014-02-26 7:46
A cracking long exposure night/low light shot of this wonderfully busy street with beautiful colour. Fully appreciate the immense detail depicting great movement with the car lights and superb contrast to the backdrop and night sky. Brilliant shot, exceptionally well put together and a piece of magic. Congrats

Hello dear Lisa, I like this interesting, very well composed and captured this beautiful picture and very good night view of the city. Interesting picture with good sharpness, depth and quality. Nice good job perfectly done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this interesting work.
Good morning and happy rest of the week.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.
mirosu (16265) 2014-02-27 4:04
I love this night photo. Excellent arrangement in portrait format. The smooth light motion lines and curves are perfect. Superb background with nicely lit buildings.
Very well done.
vjmite (4216) 2014-02-27 4:22
A great time exposure, with a lovely deep blue sky and golden glow on the road and the sandstone cutting. Nice curved light trails. It's funny how the cars, despite their solidity, disappear on a long exposure such as this but their light, which is an evanescent thing, remains in the photo as the only record of their existence.
Cricri (120095) 2014-02-27 11:20
Hi dear Lisa
subhendu_bagchi (26089) 2014-02-28 17:51
Wow! Lisa, this is just like painting... Light painting... Your composition is marvellous with this high POV. Like those lines of colours and fine sharp details of the still items. Excellent light and very fine colours. I like the depth too. Terrific shot on Traffic. Tfs.
batalay (38895) 2014-03-03 6:38
Hello dear Lisa,
Sensational effect, the product of an ideal vantage point, a tripod, and the 30 second exposure. At 60 mph (100 kmp) a car travels 88 ft. In 30 seconds, cars would travel 2640 ft or half-a-mile. No single car of course is seen but a smeared out image of many cars. I like this photo very much.
Warm regards, Lisa,
Waylim (25502) 2014-03-11 16:29
Great shot, and image that show traffic condition but no car to be seen :) Just strings of traces of teh tail lights and headlights. Beautiful blue hour shot. I love how the lines and arrow leading our vision in and toward the city skyline and beautiful deep blue evening sky. I love the golden tone complementing the blue so perfectlyl.
Have a lovely day.
adores (45595) 2014-03-26 4:38
A very good night shot in the blue hour. I really like the format you have chosen and the long light trails of the cars leading us to the high buildings in background. The long exposure worked perfectly here!
worldcitizen (8698) 2015-03-08 14:16
I was looking through your lovely gallery, and this photo caught my eye. It's a beautiful urban scene, with vivid colors and excellent lines, created by your long exposure. I like the chosen POV, and the skyscrapers in the distance. It's a very busy motorway, but there's not a car to be found, only the ghosts of what they've left behind. :-)
