ENGLISH: I know, it's so very cliche'd, but damn that's a good looking opera house. No matter how many times you see it, photograph it, walk around it, you just want to see more. So here's our Opera House on a Sunday evening in springtime, taken from the north shore of the Harbour. In my Workshop is a slightly different POV and taken a few seconds before this one.
If you'd like to see more of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, have a look at my group theme Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
ITALIANO: Si, lo so. É un vero cliché. Ma non potevo risistere. Come é possibile?

Some buildings deserve every photo that gets taken of them, Lisa, and this is unquestionably among them. Great shot of it too - I feel as though I never see it from this angle, only from the side with the bridge in frame. This not only shows the beautiful arched architecture but also the colors throughout, enhanced by a nice long exposure. The light blooms at the tips of each half are brilliant as well, especially the one to the left, which really enhances the shine on the building. Beautiful work - it's not easy to do justice to great architecture, and you'd done so here with flying colors!

That this building is very well known, but you were able to present it to us in a different way with fantastic colors.
You were not able to resist and you did well.Beautiful work.
Thanks for sharing.

I cannot imagine a better night shot of the great opera house. I remember from university days in the United States, the debates I read about in Sydney. Should the sail-like structure really belong in Sydney? I think there was intense resistance, but one person who came out for it was rising superstar contralto Joan Sutherland.
Sensational night shot.
jadesgran (3273) 2012-10-15 21:40
This is a superb shot of the Opera House. In fact I would say the best I have seen for a long time. Can never miss taking more and more of this fantastic building, and hoping to get even more when we visit next month.Best Wishes

Hello Lisa - As I think I've mentioned before, I have never been to Australia so for me any shots from your part of the world always attract me, perhaps one day I shall see this iconic landmark for myself. For now, I am happy to see another shot of such a unique building. This night shot is really good. The sails, though to me they look like slowly opening petal of a lotus flower, are wonderfully crisp and prominent against the mid-night blue sky. They are so cleverly lit that the forms are nicely displayed. There is such good detail here, from the pin-pricks of light and reflections, to the purple and orange colours of the interior, one can gain a very good idea of the beauty of the building. Must be great to attend a concert here. Have a wonderful day (or night!). Warmest regards rosemary

siudzi (23857) 2012-10-15 23:07
Agree with you, this is for sure one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. Like your night presentation taken with a perfect exposure and very interesting composition. All details are well visible and captured. Great work! Bravo!

Ciao cara Lisa,
Who could resist showing this wonderful shot of the famous building? I (and LF) returned yesterday from South Africa trip. It was fantastic adventure. I am full of great memories (and a few SD cards are also full :)).

This is one of those structures that are just irresistible. Even better when not in the harsh daylight. Incredible quality to this and I love the way that the different coloured lights add a warm, welcoming glow.
Beautiful - very well done.
Kind Regards, Ann

Who could with a view like this before them? A splendid night time capture of this icon of Sydney. Exposure is spot on and the image is pin sharp. Night time photography is definitely not one of my strong points; I take my metaphorical hat off!
danos (73960) 2012-10-16 4:00
who would not resist to stop to see and take a photo from this spectacular view of the Opera House as the port of Sydney?
I like the excellent capture of the image, the quality of it as the clarity and the sharpness of the photo.

This is a marvelous photo of Sydney opera house with excellent colorful light and perfect sharpness. The dark background anchors the composition and the coloful lights reflect softly in the dark watert. The atmosphere is really suggestive. Well done.

Who would resist such beauty and grace.Your point of view is perfect as well as the framing. The lighting of that beautiful monument is well done.I like the effect of the 30 seconds on the water.

Have a nice day
tyro (13065) 2012-10-16 7:53
Ciao cara Lisa,
Yes, I agree: it is a damn fine looking opera house.
And you have presented it perfectly here in stunning quality with exquisite sharpness and spot-on exposure with some wonderful light and colours.
This might be another "classical" view of this place but that makes it no less appealing - a wonderful shot!
P.S. It's so interesting to see the many lovely photographs of this place. But have you ever been into it and enjoyed a wonderful Mozart or Verdi opera there? Or, indeed, any opera? And can you go inside and take pictures there too? I should imagine that the interior is pretty impressive.
ikeharel (37280) 2012-10-16 9:25
You couldn't resist taking this - I couldn't resist writing about, it is most intriguing place, magnet to all photographers, and as usual: you masterfully applied a most exquisit night shot.
No more words needed - the image "speaks" for itself.
macjake (39227) 2012-10-16 11:28
nothing wrong with uploading these Iconic subjects.
heck, as I'm sitting here i'm thinking of uploading an autumn photo from Stanley Park - again - but its what captures our hearts and attention as photographers!
Personally, i love seeing this building, and I'd love to try some abstract upclose shots.
fine scene in the dark blue hour, with trailing boat lights zooming by.
love the whites contrasting all the darks.
francio64 (38188) 2012-10-16 12:35
nemmeno io posso resistere.

Hi Lisa, there is no doubt that it's a photogenic building. Jorn Utzon must have been very pleased with the number of images that have been made over the years. I'm sure he would have liked this effort too. clarity / sharpness is outstanding. Timing was good too, with just a hint of colour still in the sky. cheers, Steve

Stunning night view as ever Lisa, very accomplished, capturing one of the most famous opera houses in the world with such detail. It does look festive with the mix of lights and colours, lovely how well you have composed this one of the worlds Icon buildings. A truly superb image of which you should be very proud.
Noel_Byrne (7329) 2012-10-17 6:27
As Andrew says, some buildings deserve every shot, particularly if they are as crisp and sharp as this! Beautiful building indeed, its lines and curves woudl intrigue me for hours, someday I hope to see it in person. Until then though, your superb capture does a fantastic job to show it off in all its glory. Lovely selection of colours in this too, which I normally dont see in captures from here. Nicely done!

Ola Lisa ,
karacabeylis (1283) 2012-10-17 9:05
that's right. in fact it was too boring to face with that great building almost every day. however now i have just realized that there was a certain reason why this immensity was being tried to be displayed again and again. i believe the number of such attempts will be so limited, i guess.
ourania (12343) 2012-10-17 12:52
Ciao cara Lisa,
Complimenti e grazie!
Tanti saluti e buona giornata,

Hello Dear Lisa,
I never tire of seeing this most attractive, iconic building. Each photograph offers something just a little different, maybe the light, maybe the angle, maybe the pov. This shot, for me, is certainly one of the best that I have seen. The exposure is pin sharp, whilst the colours just bring it to life. I particularly like the twinkling light on the tip of the l/h roof. It is almost like the effect of glittering white teeth, reflecting light during a smile!
A very well composed shot. Certainly one of which you can be very proud.
My warm regards,
JFS (32107) 2012-10-18 3:55
Spectacular night shot of the operta house, the quality of the image is superbe, i had never seen this building so close, thanks Lisa!
mkamionka (24505) 2012-10-18 13:53
I love postcards and I have to say I have never seen such a great postcard of this iconic building. I am so glad you decided to do that. It is obviously a spectacular blue hour photograph, so clear and sharp that I can actually see some details of the opera for the first time here. The opera is so beautiful and the presentation is marvelous.
I do like taking postcards for many reasons: one of them is same reason I am on TE -I cannot travel everywhere so I can at least see some places in photos. Secondly -plenty of actual postcards are of poor quality and in spite of ambitious photographers it is not trivial to make a good postcard.
Excellent work, thank you so much for sharing it,
Cricri (86391) 2012-10-20 10:25
vjmite (3220) 2012-10-20 21:55
You've done a great job on this photo, even though it's a popular viewpoint for the Opera House, and almost a cliched view. The colours are wonderful and the exposure works well. The building stands out well against the dark background.
chawax (14882) 2012-10-22 11:52
Yes, this is a cliche, but what a wonderful architecture ! Very good exposure and excellent sharpness.
Have a nice week,
Bartleby (12741) 2012-10-25 2:19
and why should you? A classic! I hope one day I'll be able to visit this!
