Photographer’s Note
For this re-post, following critiques, I've levelled the photo a bit, although that was a little bit tricky because of a slight curve in the river. I've also got rid of the vignetting in the top corners.
My original note: When I was at school I used to walk across the bridge near this house, on the Lane Cove River (a few kilometres up stream from central Sydney), on the way to school and was always fascinated by it. The house is Figtree House. Originally there were 2 cottages built by an ex-convict Mary Reiby on her Figtree Farm (from 1835). A Frenchman, Didier Joubert bought the house in 1848 and the cottages were joined together to create the existing house with its French influenced tower. Joubert built a lot of houses around the suburb of Hunters Hill.
There used to be a boat shed and a ferry wharf for ferries to Sydney on the right of the house. The old bridge that I used to walk across was demolished for a freeway bridge which is just out of the photo although the freeway never did get constructed.
It was load tide when I took the photo hence the sand bank.
