Always Was, Always Will Be...Aboriginal Land.
This is the name of the work of art on the building in the background at 1-5 Flinders Street, Paddington. The design is by Aboriginal artist, Reko Rennie.
Rennie is of the Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay/Gummaroi people, and was born in Melbourne. Through his art, Rennie explores what it means to be an urban Aboriginal in contemporary Australian society. Rennie received no formal artistic training, but as a teenager he discovered graffiti, which would become an all-consuming passion. He quickly began producing original art on the streets of Melbourne and matured into an interrogative and highly innovative artist.
His art and installations continually explore issues of identity, race, law and justice, land rights, stolen generations and other issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in contemporary society. Drawing inspiration from his Aboriginal heritage, he recreates traditional images in a contemporary context using neon, projection, installation and spray paint.

The line of water spouts make for an intriguing long perspective. I also like the contrast with the colourfully lit area in the background. The people sat on the wall contribute to the mood of the shot. All in all, a well exposed image with very good colours and sharpness. A very interesting concept as an artwork.

I like the point of view a lot.A very nice ligne de fuite. Must be very refreshing for children when there is a canicule over the country. The long exposure give a nice mood to the composition.
Have a nice day.

This is an excellent presentation of the Aboriginal artist's creation, the parallel sprinklers create gorgeous parabolic arcs. I love the note.
Warm regards, Lisa,

An adorable photojob done here, Lisa. A night scene with long exp. that made the water with a silky texture - and yet, maintained fantastic DOF in excelent clarity.
Nice street shot, beautiful red flowers pots on posts.

Nice capture, good depth and also interesting effect for the water with the time of the exposure, well managed.

Ciao cara Lisa,
Interesting Aboriginal art on the street. I doesn't look like typical Aboriginal paintings made of dots, but looks very attractive anyway. Good idea to decorate building like this. Nice place with the row of parabolas of water jets. good for evening relax.
I hope your mum feels better now, give her my warm hugs.

a beautifully original and executed night shot this. I love the effect of the water in this wonderfully conceived fountain. The artwork looks as mesmerising as the silky waters here. People in shorts and no coats - now that's novel. :-)
Regards - B.

Beautiful night scene with the flowing water fountains leading into the colorful geometric building artwork.
And a bonus with your history background on Aboriginal heritage.

Interesting work, and a great not to give it context, I appreciate it so much more knowing what you have shared in the note. The color pops out of the screen, especially the red flowers for some reason. The long exposure has made a beautiful feet on the fountain, and has even made a couple of ghosts on the left hand side, which looks really cool. I used to think people would ruin the effect of long exposure (which I still can't do) but I'm learning that isnt the case, it just makes it look as if you are looking at time running at a ery different speed.
It's a great subject matter for the art too, thought provoking to say the least.
Thanks as always, and it's almost Friday. Woohoo!

thats very cool - good on em!
good for him to keep the past alive in the present, and to bring attention to important social issues.
We have the same sort of thing here in Canada with our Aboriginal People.
Fine subject of a more serious tone.
Hope your Mom is doing ok :)

I like tis image, an excellent composition with the white water and superb viewpoint angle. The colorful BG is in nice contrast against white water. Nice to see the small group of young people, they are adding nice life to the scene. Very clever from city government to dispose this beautiful Aboriginal artwork.
Very well done.

Ciao cara Lisa,
A most interesting note about Reko Rennie and his art and heritage and a fine photograph by way of illustration.
You have composed this picture beautifully, the bright artwork given pride of place and with the row of water fountains providing a perfect "lead in" to take the viewer to it. I love the reflections on the wet paving stones and the inclusion of some people adds more interest. I suspect that this was a long exposure as it was taken at night and that has given a lovely softness to the moving water sprays.
Lovely strong colours, fine light, perfect exposure and excellent details and sharpness.

I think there's a good access along the sides making sure your feet are dry. Beautifully captured low light and the way you compose this with the falls starting in the bottom corner stretching diagonally and ending at the third, also the exposure is spot on capturing movement and not blowing out any detail. This is beautiful It gives a real impression of waterflow and the mist. Lovely sparkling colours around of a wonderful lively looking place where people's presence is always an added value to the shot. Just fabs, Congrats
