Photographer's Note
In the last few days, the East Coast of Australia has seen huge storms and massive swells, the largest seas in many years. This is a photo taken at Maroubra today. The waves were between 10 and 12 feet. I escaped from work and took this from up high on a cliff and was still drenched by the spray from the surf.

Hello Lisa,
I hope your camera survived the drenching! I love standing near rough seas - very primeval somehow. These waves are enormous and look rather dangerous. Beautifully captured showing all the energy of the surf - excellent.
Kind Regards, Ann

Ciao Lisa,
Brava Lisa, ottimo lavoro.
TFS! See you soon!

All that's missing is that dare devil surfer riding a great white towards the shore.......haha
Anyway, nasty looking surf here but it's power does represent as one of your critique’rs pointed out CLEAN ENERGY.
Love the stopped action of the waves and the clarity under harsh conditions. Excellent job here Lisa, great shot for sure!!

Ciao Lisa

Ciao cara Lisa,
And what a wonderful reason to escape from work to capture this magnificent display of the power of Nature!
Your photograph is amazing and it certainly does not appear as though it was taken from the top of a high cliff - it looks as though that massive wave is about to carry you off! The lighting on the wave is wonderful and I particularly like the way the wind is lifting the spume from its top. The distant rocks with the waves crashing against them give depth to the image too as we view them across the heaving dark blue sea.
Fabulous lighting, perfect exposure with just the right shutter speed, lovely colours and impeccable sharpness.
Fabulous!
Kind Regards,
John.

Namaskar dear Lisa,
I can imagine the intensity of these waves. It is not easy to capture such a beautiful and sharp picture while getting drenched. Love the blue and white colors.

Ciao Lisuzza,
buona serata...

Hi Lisa
Not quite the mellow serene scene we are used to from you Lisa ! Not a long exposure to be seen anywhere there !
A well caught image, tricky for sure, I know from bitter experience .. One advantage you may have is some brighter light. If we ever get big surf, it is usually as a consequence of bad weather, with grey days, and a good shot, short exposure is hard to find. Never would 1/800 work, esp at ISO 200 ...
You have caught the power well, even for your high vantage point, ( it hardly shows ) and stopped all movement for us to enjoy the scene.
Poor TE'r of late, nipping in for a quick post to fill up my map, and not much else. Sad, but there we go.. Kids huh ?!
hope all goes well for you, we do not 'speak' much of late, see above, but I do look in from time to time !
kind regards
Martin

Hello Lisa - You've captured the unleashed power of the sea fantastically well here and no wonder you used the long lens! The contrast of textures from the wispy, misty spray to the splashing chop of the waves and the heavy roll of the breaking wave conveys the dynamic energy of the sea. Too rough for surfing?
Warm regards Rosemary
PS. A great motion shot!

Hi Lisa
Wonderful dramatic capture, an impressive display of power for sure. You really do capture these crashing waves and great sea action of some serious don't mess with me waves! Indeed an awesome nature shot and a great contrast to the violence taking place. An expressive shot ideed and great demonstration of you skills too with shutter speeds, the crispness of this shot and the timing is also amazing with it natural colors. Credit to your efforts for you must have waited for the opportune moment when the wave lashed on like this. The small bits of textures inside the waves look so wonderful. Great demonstration of your skills with shutter speeds. Congrats, TFS
Warm regards

Ciao Lisa,
It certainly looks rough & windy, similar to South Queensland when there's a cyclone off the coast. Not a good day to be body-surfing! I prefer this with the sandstone headland included at right rather than without. It adds depth. I like the spray being blown backwards behind the wave. Tfs!

Ottima qualità fotografica in un contesto do onda oceanica.

Tanti complimenti e grazie!
Tanti saluti e buona giornata,
Ourania
