The pelicans are very much part of the daily life of the Tuggerah Lake. They populate the lake and can be seen on sand bars, on fence posts, lamp posts, nesting along the shoreline and near every jetty where fishermen may choose to clean their catch. One of the main towns on the lake, The Entrance, has a pelican feeding each day at 3 pm near the town centre which is a popular tourist activity. it is managed by the Wildlife and Fisheries department and other feeding is generally discouraged. They are lovely graceful birds and every time I see them I think of a rhyme my mother and grandmother used to recite when I was a young child ...
It is by American poet Dixon Lanier Merritt
A funny old bird is a pelican.
His beak can hold more than his bellican.
Food for a week
He can hold in his beak,
But I don't know how the hellican.
I might add that they did not progress further than first couple of lines :) must have been protecting my innocent young ears!

Ciao e buona giornata

lovely use of the filter to emphasise the pinky blue colours of the evening sky.
With the so graceful shapes of the pelicans well placed amongst the posts it has a very serene and tranquil atmosphere about it.
One of our most favourite spots along the Central Coast.
Kind regards Les.

Lovely, calm evening atmosphere captured here. Thank goodness you used an ND grad; otherwise that sun area would have properly burnt out! Love the purple tones in the sky and reflected in the water. However the water is, I think Tuggerah Lake, which isn't in the Myall Lakes area, surely, which is north of Port Stephens. Plenty of pelicans there too, of course!

this is exquisite! I love the naturally enticing lines and elements, but is the light and the Pellies that make it so special. Beautiful work!

What a mood you have captured here.
It is peace and tranquillity personified!
The line of verticals is very important in the composition and works really well with the opposing lines of the colours.
Have a great day,

a very lovely scene, I like very much the sense of depth and how the pelicans are placed in the frame, surrounded by silhouettes and colours. There's a fine perspective leading to the background and the wonderful, moody colour patterns add dynamism as well. You've achieved impressive definition and consistency in the colours of sky and reflections. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,

L'image est soigneusement composée et le contraste fort est très agréable sous cette lumière.Une belle harmonie de teintes.

Fine sunset colorful scene of glassy Tuggerah Lake with the sky and water in varying hues and patterns, and a bonus with the majestic floating pelicans.
I had never heard the amusing pelican rhyme, but do enjoy it.
thanks for sharing,

I think that the diagonal line of posts against the smooth and gloriously coloured water are lovely. The pelicans are an extra bonus. A lovely piece of photography.
Kind Regards, Ann

C'est presque une photo surréaliste avec ces pélicans qui sortent on ne sait d'où.
C'est une belle image bien composé.

Ahhh Kathryn, I can see why the is one of your happy places - and that of the pelicans. The light is stunning, giving that "fruit tingle" sky that is so eye-catching and so wonderfully exposed. Even if you'd cropped the sky completely out, this would be a magnificent photo, with the pelicans, the reflected sky in the water and those poles. With it, it's a breath-taking photo. Well done, and I wish you a happy week.
Hope you've recovered from the Lurgy
