This is Merry Beach, where we spent the Australia Day weekend camping. This beach, together with Bawley Point, Pretty Beach, Pebbly Beach and Kioloa all border on the Kioloa National Park. There are numerous camping spots around the beach and in the National Park. This photo made me think of the old saying, "Red sky at night, sailor's delight, red sky at morning, sailor's warning". Well the saying was wrong. It flooded down the next morning. Camping is not for everyone, but it's something I really love doing and Australia has countless National Parks and beaches to facilitate that. The only negative side is the heavy rain and wind, and the odd unexpected guest, two of whom visited our tent and you can see in the Workshops...

Two VERY different shots here and in the WS, Lisa! The main photo is your usually excellent long exposure beach shot, with really nice tones and creamy ocean water on this little cove. The rocks you've chosen in FG are perfect entrypoints to the photo, and the light is outstanding - the shift from left to right is really dramatic.
The second shot is adorable - obviously far less planned, but a welcome surprise (for us at least - not sure if wallabies are generally welcome creatures at campsites...)

Hello Lisa, these are very nice colors of sunset that you have captured at the seashore. I really love the point of view with the angular rocks that lead the eye into the scene.
My daughter is camping in South Australia right now. She loves it too.
Have a great day,

you´ve found really beautiful place to spend weekend camping. And the photo in WS shows you had a nice, unplanned visit too:)
And the view you provide us here is like you wrote-a delight, not only for sailors, but for all of us.
Well composed and the colors are here magnificent.Great to see how the warm, orange tones of the sky contrast with the other, darker part of the image.
I wouldn´t mind wake up every morning with such spectacular views:)

What a splendid atmosphere in that wonderful place. Being the sea side man, I would be thrilled to have a place like this for the weekend.
Good capture as usual.
HimalAnda (5630) 2013-01-29 23:16
The colors in the sky are beautiful. I also like the perfect depth of field and the great sharpness of this picture.
Robert1969 (6238) 2013-01-29 23:31
That's a better coastline what we have :-).
Great point of view and composition: the
stones on the forground create an extra depth
and it makes also the picture extra exciting
(rough surrounding). Light management is
also great and a nice extra is the beautiful
marina7 (5860) 2013-01-30 1:13
this is a stunning photo with the contrasty light in the sky forming a great perspective. The colors of the sunset are awesome and the picture is very clear and transparent. A delight for sure, not just for sailors:)
Thanks and best wishes

Very well done ;)

In England we say red sky at night, shepherd's delight, red sky in the morning, sailor's warning. Perhaps that where you went wrong:-) Any way, it is a fantastic sky and you have caught it beautifully. Happy camping!
COSTANTINO (42746) 2013-01-30 4:18

Ciao cara Lisa,
Another fine seascape from NSW with the most gorgeous light and colours. Oddly enough, you didn't include and exif data in your note (being somewhat obsessive, I love to read all that boring information!) but I suspect that this was a long exposure taken during the twilight hours before you bedded down for the night.
The colours in the sky are amazing and, as you so rightly say, they would tend to suggest a fine morning ahead even although that proved not to be the case. But what I really like here is the reflected colours in the pools and on the rough surfaces of the rocks too - that is delightful.
P.S. And a fine workshop picture of the wallabies too - do they steal grub and invade your tent too?
yquem46 (32295) 2013-01-30 5:56
Another splendid shot to be added at your already long pile
Simple and beautiful, top notch light and colors

what a fabulous place to set up camp. Could sit with a glass of wine and watch this seascape and sunset any day. Your composition and execution here are superb and the result captivating! Cheers!
Regards - Brian.

I like that picture a lot as well as the story that comes with it. What a surprise to get a kangourou in your tent in the morning requesting the morning coffee. They are so cute for us but it must be quite disturbing.
Have a nice day
dip (21921) 2013-01-30 10:58
wonderful image with amazing colors, the low point of view works excellent and gives, thanks to rocks formations,an impressive perspective,
photoray (4926) 2013-01-30 11:09
Looks like a fine place to go tide-pooling?
And I wish I could get my motorhome here, but would have to settle for renting one of your camping cabins, like my first trip to Oz.
Sorry to hear you are having nasty floods. We are just the opposite here in Californication with very little rain throughout January.
Stay dry, warm and healthy,

Ciao e buona serata

What a beautiful scene, and what a place to go camping. I love you get that soft effect on the water, and that in combination with that stunning sky makes a wonderful image. So, now ive learned about camping in Oz....tent, check. Stove. Check. Camera, check. Wallaby spray, check :)
All the best
Ps, posting some new Frits from my new iPad (woohoo) so apologies for spelling mistakes and weird auto corrects!
npecanhuk (53913) 2013-01-30 13:45
Very beautiful picture!
I really enjoyed all those colors!
Management of difficult light, chosen pov, composition and horizontal format also pleased me a lot!
TFS - congrats,

Hello Lisa - What a magical place to spend a few days camping ... good for the soul and good for the photography! Nice to see the wildlife too ;)
Your seascapes are breathtaking and this one is no exception. The flash of sunlit cloud and reflection are the immediate eye-catcher but looking more closely at the composition I like the textured rocks in the FG and the way the large slab and the edge of the colourful cloud create a clear diagonal across the frame; one side of the line warn and vibrant, the other soft and calm. An interesting juxtaposition. I would love to do seascapes like this, think I need to come for a master-class! Take care dear friend Rosemary
danos (74056) 2013-01-30 22:58
excellent the view of Merry beach, with the colour tints of the sky to make the image so beautiful and unique.I like the rocky foreground as the reflections on the surface of the small sea-ponds of it.
sabermonajati (7601) 2013-01-31 4:57
wonderful sky you captured.orange clouds are attractive.
abmdsudi (26295) 2013-02-01 6:48
Fire in the sky... but good enough light to get some details on earth too. Yes, it is a really magic moment, and you have caught it skilfully to offer us some wonderful tones and an elegant range of textures in the foreground. Excellent work, this is a beautiful composition and good balacing job too. Brilliant shot, Congrats
ikeharel (37378) 2013-02-03 1:59
Hi dear Lisa,
First let me say, the two Wallabies approached your tent, probably were looking forv food leftovers, so no surprise came as close, the one posing looks amazing.
This dawn pic., with a dramatic light over the rocks is imperessive and well made. Picture space employed efficiently, with golden light on side and brown tone on the "piled" rocks in contrast.
Have a nice weeek ahead,
ChrisJ (86902) 2013-02-03 3:53
I like the right angled alignment of the rock wedge thrown up over the main shelf. A stunning sunset I know all too well what the weather was like in Brisbane a day or 2 earlier. Leaving for Turkey on Wednesday & hoping to get the ferry to Brindisi in Italy during summer vacation. Will be over there for a year, all going well. Might stop in Greece enroute. Good sharpness & shadow detail.

Hi Dear Lisa
mirosu (5533) 2013-02-05 0:03
Very beautiful composition and framing of terrific landscape with tranquil atmosphere. An excellent executed image. Colors, sharpness, light, POv and DOF are fantastic. Well done.
macjake (39235) 2013-02-05 0:06
well, you sure know how to keep us in suspense...i couldn't open up that WS photo fast enough! lol
cute little buggers aren't they!
I have a question though...here in Canada they are seen as cute etc.....but how do locals feel about them. I heard that in Aussie land they are sometimes referred to as rodents and cause alot of damage to crops and such...please correct me if i'm way off. Is it just a touristy thing to 'love' these animals and think that they're cute, but in reality they do humans little favor?
As for the photo...well, no doubt about that.
its a photo Peter would enlarge and put right up on his kitchen wall! lol
In fact, I think he's making a copy of it right now! lol
So what was the shutter speed on this? I think i see a wee bit of silky water on the right. lovely brown dark rocks and mixtures of blues and oranges.
very easy to enjoy...not sure what Peter's got in his bonnet! :)
Kielia (20467) 2013-02-05 3:25
another fantastic place that you have captured excellently. Your POV works very well and the management of the difficult light is outstanding.
The composition is excellent, as already mentioned! I also love the colors and the beautiful sky. My compliments!
mkamionka (24559) 2013-02-05 5:06
wow this is a breath taking view! Beautiful low light atmosphere. The colors are so pretty! You have thought through the composition perfectly with the great foreground selected here. Amazing depth of the field with the crispy sharp rocks and equally clear trees on the horizon. The sky is spectacular indeed having the contrast of the warm and cold colors.
Excellent work, I haven't seen such a wonderful seascape for quite a while,
zoomer (3584) 2013-02-06 16:33
Hi Lisa, that's an awesome scene. The colors and details are vivid and real and create a strong impact. The low angle gives the picture immediacy.Best wishes,Wolf.

Hi Lisa ,
Superb landscape shot. Breath taking view and wonderful colors. Well done. TFS.

Ciao cara Lisa,
Complimenti e grazie!
Tanti saluti e buona giornata,
