Photographer’s Note
This is in the grounds of Government House, residence of the head of state of Australia. I had dropped my daughter at work there and driving back towards the gate we disturbed a flock of Australian coot snoozing on the grass. This is a small black water bird with white on face and bill.
The photo is taken point-and-shoot from the car window. Trimmed to remove the car bonnet and sharpened. Yes, the grass looks almost dead. It is winter, but also drought, and even the governor-general's water use is restrained.
It is taken in the Australian Capital Territory, not New South Wales, but the software does not recognise the seat of Australian government!
