[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This male deer (buck) was one of 5 that I spotted near Invermere, B.C. during a recent short visit to the area. They were browsing early in the early morning near the hotel where we were staying. I was quite surprised, actually, how close I was able to get to the them - they are obviously protected and quite accustomed to tourist traffic in the area. This male was anxious to cross the busy highway so while he was waiting to make his dash, I was able to take this photo using my lens at maximum 200mm telephoto - hand-held.

Hello Gerald,

Bonjour Gérald,
Quelle majesté ! Superbe ! La lumière est excellente et la MAP précise. Juste pour pinailler : dommage que les antérieurs ne soient pas complets.
Cordialement,
Gérard

Hi Gerald
Nice light on the stag especially the antlers. The front feet are cut off but I suspect that is more to do with the frame.
Excellent shot.
Phil

Hi Gerald!

This is an amazing "portrait"! you were very lucky to see so close this beautiful animal, but luck is not enough to take such great photo, there has to be ability and talent, too, and you certainly have them! Congratulations!

Hello,

quelle beau captage, génial, tu as réussi a le prendre à la perfection, car c'est souvent pas facile de les photographier, mangigique.

Bravo et amitié

Nicou

Hi Gerald!
I think that this deer will not live very long crossing highways !
Anyway, his stillness let you capture a very good picture, sharp and in a good light.
Greetings from Italy!

Sooo beautiful!! I always think they look like a work of art. He stopped to pose so nicely for you too. A perfect background with the wildflowers. TFS and have a happy day!

Nice capture and good pose. I really like your upper North American images. They are always great to look at. Your images make good ambassadors for the beauty of western Canada.

My brother-in-law, an avid eastern Oregon hunter for over 40 years, has some interesting things to say about how deer and elk migrations patterns have changed over time.

The hunting seasons have been shortened and are later in the fall than they used to be. And the animal's migration paths are altered from the past. They don't come as far down off the mountains as they used to. Whereas the hunters used to spend 10 days in heavy snow; now they see only a light covering.

We speculated whether or not global climate change may be responsible for these changes or whether they are just short term, 50 to 100 year, local weather pattern fluctuations.

You see any changes like that up your way?

Hi Gerald!
Nice one! I am not much of a wildlife photographer, but certainly its always a treat to have them so close like this one. At least then I will give it a try. You have captured this one perfectly. Lovely natural colors, and good clarity....especially at full 200mm and hand-held. All in all a very pleasing photo! Take care,
Steve

He's a beauty. He looks so alert and certainly well aware of your presence. The way the light is edging his head, particularly the ears and antlers makes him stand proud of the background. A good opportune shot.

Hi Gerald,
Wonderful capture of this handsome beast seen in fantastic details as his soft brown velvet is so beautifully seen against the lush green backdrop. The way he is turning his head gives the perfect view of his noble rack.

A different posting from your usual contributions: great sharpness and detail, and the Nikkor VR lens is pretty impressive at this maximum focal distance - well done!

Bonjour Gerald,
Regards.
Daniel.

Hi Gerald,
so lovely the attitude, perfect timing and close up, congratulations.
