The power of the telephoto lens!
This shot, taken from the Memorial Drive outlook overlooking downtown Calgary and the Bow River early one morning last Fall (at the maximum focal length of the Nikon VR lens), appears to show the Rocky Mountains much closer to the city than their real distance, perhaps some 90-100kms away.
Gotta love that VR lens! |

Hi jeff,
That's a perfect example of the impact of using a high power telephoto lens. This shot looks more like a painting than a photograph, maybe due to post processing or also the effect of the telephoto? Well seen adn thanks for showing this technique. TFS. Gerald
Hi Jeff:
Six points? That's it? This picture is fantastic. My wife is from Calgary, and she couldn't believe that this was real (until I explained the power of the telephoto to her, of course). In addition, the sunrise and the fall colors just make this a nice shot. The one thing I wish is that you had had a grad to bring the exposure of the mountains down--they seem just a bit overexposed. But overall, this shot is fantastic.

Hi Jeff!
I like the picture because of the mountains in the background showing both the power of a telephoto lens and their power!
I also like the colors: green, yellow, white, bluish and redish nuances!
TFS - Congratulations!
