[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Here is the mystery author who was signing his books in yesterday's post.

Umberto Eco

He was giving the The Third Annual Arthur Miller Freedom to Write Lecture as part of the The PEN World Voices conference.

Entitled "On the Advantages of Fiction for Life and Death," you can listen to it here..

In the Workshop, a fan lights up for the luminary.

There's a nice chemistry here between the rascally looking author and the smiling young woman. The clarity is superb - looks as though there was some bright lighting on the stage which must have helped.

Good job Hugh.

Lucky you!
Meeting the greatest living postmodernist in literature.
Did you have a chance to have a chat with him?

Surely, a precious documentary. Maybe in B&W?
Cheers,
Deniz

This is a great portrait of a great man, his expression is superb and I like this "decisive moment" when one fan has the chance to exchange a few words with him - a photo that is certainly underrated IMO...
I wish I could have witnessed this event !

WS is also fun, and for both photos you've found very appropriate title !
Compliments,
Cath.

Hi Hugh,
I didn't notice the follow up untill today. So it is Umberto Eco. Great expressions here. Gotta love that cigar!

Brian

I enjoy reading Mr. Eco books, at some point he was one of my favorites... very nice portrait, Hugh.
Cheers,
E

hello Hugh,
photos that show the human comdition are the ones that appeal to me most and this is one. Here we catch a glimpse of not only the author but his personality. He has an engaging twinkle in his eye. There is a nice light and a background suitable for The Name of the Rose.
best regards
Bev
