Photographer’s Note

These are the basaseachic falls. They are located in Sierra Madre, north of Mexico. Sierra Madre is known for its canyons and gorges which are both plenty and dramatic.
Unfortunately, it is very underdeveloped in terms of trekking facilities, and the only way to explore it on foot is doing everything by yourself, which is not practical if you travel with a limited amount of time.

The landscape is stunning and it was very frustrating to be limited to a rented car and driver to take us sightseeing. We eventually found a place where they rented just a car and head out to the basaseachi falls park, a place that is very hard to reach by public transportation.

The place is incredible, the landscape is dramatic and, best of all, it’s deserted. The falls are tucked into a corner of canyon Candameña, a very deep and very narrow gorge. The height of the falls (311m, the largest waterfall of Mexico in rainy season) and its setting makes them just stunning. We spent the whole day hiking on narrow winding paths along the walls of the canyon, scaring off lizards and squirrels, looking at the humming birds and going down to the bottom of the ravine, from where this photo was taken.
It looks like I’ve tilted the framing on purpose, with the tilted rock wall and fence (in the top), but it’s just its natural inclination
