This photo is actually taken in Gatineau, Quebec with the icy river in the foreground separating the two provinces and cities. The location is just behind the Museum of History (formerly the Museum of Civilization and prior to that the Museum of Man), Canada's most visited museum. On the skyline are a number of Ottawa's iconic landmarks, from left to right the steeples of Notre Dame Cathedral, the statue of Samuel Champlain (both of which look pretty small), the National Art Gallery (the glass pyramid like structure), the Chateau Laurier, the Rideau locks and the Centre Block of the Canadian Parliament.

Strangely enough this photo makes me think of my hometown Stockholm. There is no real resemblance, but I find some connections in the ice-covered river (in the case of Stockholm a lake and the Baltic Sea), the steep hills, the church and other monumental buildings on top of the hills. Obviously there is a similar climate and maybe a similar kind of culture. An interesting photo in any case.

oh this brings back memories.
been here many times, been to this same exact location where you took the photo - i lived in Ottawa for 4.5 years.
this is a great photo because it shows both sides, split by the frozen water.
love the skyline of the buildings,

a splendid view with spectacular composition and beautiful details, the colours and lights are very nice, great depth and the POV is superb, too.

The frozen river is something I never saw, as I come from a country hardly having snow here.
I saw Ottawa on mid-summer 1978, and the winter scenery over its skyline.
Fine clear details collected, with good depth and light management, balanced well the shining ice with the whole.

this skyline is beautiful and, although we are looking at it from a great distance, you have ensured excellent definition on details and we get a comprehensive and interesting idea of the city and its atmosphere. Modern and older architectural styles are distinct and the city surely has a lot to offer to photographers. I like the timid but effective highlights and the cold atmosphere. The deep foreground and the sky provide a discreet and very lovely framing. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Very pleasing winter shot of Ottawa indeed. A city that I unfortunately haven't seen enough of. Time there was very limited back then.
The low point of view with the vast expanse of ice, leading us towards the impressive skyline of Ottawa is great.
have a great time
