Photographer's Note
Float planes are a popular mode of transportation around the Downtown Vancouver area for locals and tourists. Its popular to take a plane over to Vancouver Island, and also just for fun to fly up to Whistler and back. You can also purchase flying time just to see Vancouver from the air - which i have yet to do.
In this photo, i was shooting architecture across the street when i looked over to my right and noticed this sunset light reflecting onto the water. The Sun is setting behind the planes, therefore the fg was almost impossible to brighten. I could have brightened the fg in post processing, but it looked too fake so i left it like this.
Hope you like it.
Enjoy the weekend everyone.

Craig, I think you did great here. I like the way the planes are both pointing in two different directions. I really like the light management and the color saturation and all with sweet clarity as well. The sun setting really has enhanced the colors on the water, which looks beautiful. Your POV is always following your Mind's Eye, and I for one am very glad you do. Excellent Job Craig!!

Hello Craig,
I always wanted to climb into a plane and make a trip. When I see remind me of scenes in movies. The golden waters create the idyllic atmosphere to enjoy the composition.
Have a nice weekend,
Warm regards,
Maria

Even the might of Photomatix has not pulled this one round ! Even so, the effect you have achieved is very pleasing, the golden glow on the water entirely cativating.
I can imagine being there, with the rather more accommodating human eye on the job, was a beautiful moment. ( actually I understand the eye does what a camera does, its the brain that readjusts all the exposures ! )
I have always imagined Vancouver a wonderful place to live, this image and the lifestyle it portrays helps confirm it.
Thanks for your repsonse this morning, I have done a little inevstigation already. I will answer more fully shortly.
kind regards
Martin

Hi Craig,
yes, the planes are cool and very well positioned towards each other but the main attraction here is definitely that golden light streaming from the upper corner. Pure gold. Adds so much charm to the whole composition. Wonderful shot.
Best wishes

Few golden hours I've seen on Te so nice like this one. Good taste my friend and good sharpness too. Have you ever taken a plane like this? I guess you could take splendid photos from the air.
Enjoy the WE!

Hi Craig
It's good and wise decision on you part to have included the glimpse of highlights in shadow areas in the background just to give us the depth and scale proportion as well. Super shot in the evening, just as the last of the sun's rays are going down and golden tone works a treat here and you managed to register the main subjects in great detail filling the fg appropriately. The sheen of warm light on the ripply water really catch our attention and hold the focus in and boosting the overall effect. What a moment captured! TFS, Cheers. Have a Great WE

Planes on golden water's...
A beautiful premeditated shot, the colors along with special light and juxtaposition of the airplanes, on third of picture space, culminated to great depth and fine calm image.

Hi Craig,
Light is just wonderful. Golden light is stunning especially on the upper left. Vancouver is a city of sea and mountains, and it would be just great to take a tour on one of those Otters. I'm not sure how the background boats should be framed, omit them altogether or show more of them.

Hello Craig
I like this composition with the planes that floats in a sea of golden coloured water. Wise inclusion of the stake and a glimpse of the boats to get balance and depth to the scene. Very well done, my friend:) Enjoy you weekend.

Have you tried such flight? These planes look rather small, so I would be afraid to fly. Luckily you looked over in right moment - the light at sunset is wonderful here. Nice quiet mood. Excellent shot.

Bonjour Craig
Des teintes bleutées au premier plan qui s'accordent très bien avec ces reflets chauds à la surface de l'eau.
Bonne journée

Hi Craig,
Ah, you call these "float 'planes" - we call them "seaplanes" but I guess they're just the same things - 'planes with floats rather than wheels! Or maybe "seaplanes" are really those big ones where the bottom of the 'plane is like a ship's hull? Not sure.
Anyway, this is a very fine photograph with the most magical lighting - not only the lovely subtle shades of blue on the 'planes but also the glorious golden glow on the water as a reflection of the sky. Just enough of the distant view at the top not to cause any distraction, the picture is wonderfully sharp and clear.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. Thanks for the "y"! Again, very, very subtle and thoughtful use of HDR!

ciao Craig,
mi piace questa inquadratura con i riflessi dorati del sole sull'acqua e con i due idrovolanti in FG.
Buona la qualità dell'immagine anche se avrei lasciato qualche centimetro in più in basso,

Hi Craig
A simple minimalistic photo where you've let that magnificent warm, golden light do all the talking. The image is luminous and the texture of the water just magic. Thanks for sharing, have a beautiful day, don't work too hard.

Hi Craig,
The aircrafts are well placed in the frame. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the DHC-2 Turbo Beaver. The sunset is giving nice colors to the water. Have a nice day.

Hello Craig
The subject here is quite different...the float planes which gives a twist to the otherwise normal sunset scene. You've brought out details on the plabnes well, otherwise I feel they would have been quite in the shade. Though I wish there was some bit of space between the 2 planes, I doubt whether you could have had a POV to make it happen. Otherwise a nice work!
Have a great week
Regards
Angshu
