Fish Trap Lake Photo

Photographer’s Note

Fish Trap Lake is located in Northern Wisconsin, not far from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This area is known for it's fishing because much of it is untouched land owned by the state. Forestry does take place, but it is limited.

I reposted this photo because I am learning from this site and now see many problems with the previous one. First, I cropped the photo, so the whole thing seems more centered, without too much sky. I also learned how to resize the photo correctly, which helped fix the colors. I made the photo a little sharper and increased the contrast just a bit.

Hi Bill, this one is indeed much more balanced than the original. You hae now a beautiful composition with very natural but and beautiful colors.

Interesting shot. I like the colors and anything with clouds and a lake is for me. I didn't see your original version that you posted, but I see nothing basically wrong with this shot. Yes, cropping is one of the first things I look at when I view my photos. I wouldn't worry about centering too much as sometimes it distracts from your photo. I'll bet it is cold up there right now. So did you fish in the lake when you were there?

Yes, I can see that you're learning fast! Isn't it fun here? :-) Very nice shot and a great improvement on the original.

I personally see it a bit tilted, so I did a workshop for you. It's just a -0.7 rotation, basically minimal, but I think it works. Hope you find it usefull and I look forward to your next posts.

Hello Bill,
I did not see your first post of this shot, but this one is very nice. You used the rule of thirds well in the composition and the picture is well balanced. Very beautiful colors. Pretty reflections and small ripples in the water add interest. Very good work!

Your composition is great here with the reflection providing nice depth and balance for the shot. The lighting and colors are fine with nice sharpness and detail.

Hi Bill,

Very nice .. the way the green interacts with the blue is so peaceful and complimentary .. the reflection in the ripples of the water is very nice .. you can almost feel the place from the breeze .. and have a sense of stillness as well .. very nice .. take care, John
