Photographer’s Note
work has taken 130% of my time, which means I have not been here on TE as much as I'd like to, and I feel a little rusted when I longingly look at the camera bag. and the Opalescent Pool in Yellowstone National park's Black Sand Basin also looks a little rusted.
the Opalescent Pool has a cooler temperature than other thermal features at Black Sand Basin, just +62C (144F). early in its history Opalescent Pool was a boiling spring, surrounded by smaller springs, but by early 1950s it had turned into small dry pool. then the run-off from neighbouring Spouter Geyser flowed into it, and the increased water flow flooded the surrounding area, killing the trees. since then silica, a non-crystalline compound, has precipitated upon the dead tree trunks, slowly impregnates the wood and over time, with the absence of oxygen, eventually petrifies the wood.

Hi Kristine. Looks like some apocalyptic scene of what earth could end up looking like if humans persist in their abuse of earth, water and air. great colours, magical light and a fine composition. such beauty, yet such absence of life!Regards. Klaudio. P.S.I have enjoyed your shots of these thermal features, so much so that I have gone back to my N.Z. shots and am planning to post one or two soon. Regards. Klaudio.

Dear Kristine,
Looks like someone is killed there and his blood is running through the river. Okay, something less dramatic ;-)
Not a site we see a lot here from Yellowstone, but therefor highly interesting in layers and colours. What a wonderful view and play with nature to create these landscapes and i always wonder how trees can exist here. You did very well here, just the information what is needed, no more, no less...pretty good.

Hi Kristine,
from which planet you say this one is?
I like white blue red layers...it reminds me of our national flag :) Well...the difference is that I prefer this colour tones 130% better. They feel like nature spilled those colours and this is a result. Absolutely stunning view!

Hi Kristine
Excellent!!! The colors are amazing! I love the contrast between the brown, cyan and white! The Pov is well chosen with the two sticks each on one side of the picture and the way you framed give a strong value to the curves.

Hello Kristine,
Three basic colours make this shot great in its simplicity. I love the curving deep blue surrounded by the browns and white. Great composition with the one tree and the piece of wood in the foreground only and all the rest of the trees in the section beyond the blue. Nice!

Kristine,
I like the rusty brown contrasting to the blue and the while of the calsium. I just saw a Documentary type show, that talks about how Yellowstone is really one gigantic volcano, and if it were to have one huge eruption, it could cause the end of the world for the smoke and ashes it would create will block the atmospphere for over three years and the earth will be so cold and can kill most of the species and plants. Anyway, I'm not too worry about that. I'll take it day by day. I just know we need to take care of our environment as best as we can and hope it last a lot longer that some predicted.
This is fantastic shot with great details. wonderful color and contrast. Thanks

Hi Kristine,
One can not go wrong with the gold and blue color combination and you provide a light dusting of snow for contrast.
It looks like the beaver have flooded the area surrounding the stream giving this one a stark dreamy look.
There is a little stream a few miles northeast of Jackson called Kelly Warm Springs.
The temps are about 90F year round and people bring their tropical aquarium fish which gives the stream a unique color and atmosphere.

Hello Kristine! This is certainly not from here :)))))) this must be another planet!!! What a strange world, it looks half dead with the trees coming out with their white "paint" but there is something under the roof that boils and gurgles, that steams and is ready to come up ... as dead as it seems as much energy is there. We can feel that! Excellent photo quality, it shines, it lives ... it was ready to come out ... Oh yeah, work ... but it brings us out, it gives us the money to travel and see the world ... have a great weekend, some foliage maybe or "just" in town ... Barbara.

Kristine,
hopefully work will take less of your time soon then:)
I really like this kind of work in nature/landscape. Getting down to the details, not yet abstraction but a different approach, something more personal. The colors are stunning and simply beautiful. The contrast with those dead tree trunks, the curve, bring out even more the textures. Light is perfect and the whole a little jewel. My congratulations.! I can well see you going towards something like painting nature with your camera...just an idea:)

alright lets talk in numbers!
composition 10/10
clarity 10/10
colour compo and saturation 10/10
exposure 9.5/10 (the white on the left might seem a bit OE but I don't know if it was like that indeed, however I can live with that :) )
So the conclusion here is that I have absolutly no problem putting this piece of beauty in my favorites ;)
Congratulations Kristine for the idea and the hard work on PP.

Hello Kristine,
Opalescent Pool, iridescent blue... an astonishing amalgam of colors created in virtual furnaces! In the 19th century, when the Industrial Revolution, with sky-scraping smoke stacks achieved extremely high temperatures, new oxides were created with hitherto unseen colors. It was the Impressionists who first suspended these pigments in oil, and produced such a memorable genre in their paintings. Here in the Second Industrial Revolution, the Digital Revolution, colors that could never be captured before are being recorded. Yellowstone creates, the Nikon D200 records with fidelity. Sensational shot!
Warm regards,
Bulent

A strikingly beautiful composition with the strong contrast of colors especially the interesting white on the tree trunks. At first, I thought it was snow, but your note explains well. Hello Kristine
The colours on display in Yellowstone are actually so 'unreal'. The blue is iridescent, contrasting with the brown in the FG & the white beyond. It appears like the effect of spilled paints when an artist was at work. Like your idea of inclusion of the burnt tree trunk in the corner, sort of anchors the shot. Good work!

Hey Kristine,
As Henk already mentioned about someone being killed is what came to my mind. Could it be some bodies being thrown into the pool or burried underneath it or a leak from a nearby mass grave? Looks like a aluminium waste pond with transparent rust tinge flowing through the river...pardon my dark imagination :/
I like the coldness of the shot, the colours, a contrast visualisation of industrial and nature into a photograph.
All the best!

Hi Kristine,
The photo will always stand out because of the great colours and the quality with which you've captured it, but I do wish it was taken from a slightly different perspective because I'm just so intrigued by what's behind the trees and what that landscape might look like. I might have either got lower or taken the shot portrait style just to include some of that background and give the place a sense of perspective. Only my opinion mind!
