The fall colors in Utah this year have been incredible. It started early with the reds and the maples and oaks. Now the colors have moved to the aspen.

It was peaceful being up before everyone else, and before the sun had crested the mountain. The air was clear, and filled with the sound of birds. There were deer in the meadow behind me. It was very peaceful.

I had an hour or two this morning to go photograph. Hardly enough time to take my bigger cameras, so I thought I would experiment with the D70. I operated it in manual mode, setting the aperature down to get significant depth of field. I adjusted it to a low contrast setting, with enhanced color. I corrected the natural color to a gray card and made the exposure.

It sure weighs a lot less than the Sinar P or A series.

Dana, Gorgeous color, sharpness and depth. I particularly like the darker trunk on the right, nearest the camera, and the one on the left, both of which frame in the other aspens. Do the yellow leaves in the background come out sharp in a print? It doesn't look like it from the screen, but I'm interest to know about the Nikon digital--I would suppose the exposure, being slower than 1/15 sec would have moving leaves.

Peaceful yeah !! . it's it ferns or tiny oak in the soil and color changing ?

beautiful autumn shot! The photo speak to me and i love autumn colors! The yellow is simply amazing and the contrast with the white trees is in perfect balance. Autumn is here in Italy also, but i haven't the opportunity to see a so gorgeus view!

Very, very nice...makes me want to get out of bed early and go lug my Sinar around. Very pretty, especially the red in the undergrowth contrasted with the yellows.

Lovely vibrant colors, thanks for indicating the settings you did on your camera to get that exposure. I have never seen fern turning to yellow, it's just so beautiful.

Dazzling photo, Dana! The colors are so brilliant, composition and DOF perfect. You do such beautiful work in B&W as well, I'm wondering if this would work rendered as a greyscale or duotone...

Wonderful leaf colours accentuated by the crisp contrast with the tree trunks.

A great sense of place has been created by the depth of field, and the compositioninviting you to walk into the picture through into the middle distance in centre-left.

Interesting composition. The well chosen DOF and the way the light hits the trees give it an almost 3D feel. Nice blend of textures and colours.

This photo is very attractive because of the varoius size of Aspens in the photo. A nice persepctive from the largest on the right to the distant trees. The color is incredible with the contasting tones throughout! A very fine viewing!
